This is useful but I hope not-OCRing PDFs does not become the norm because of it. My local city council doesn't ocr their minutes, but they do OCR "archived minutes" (3+ years old). So if you want to do a search for some spec

Is there any quality difference between hiring a voice actor specifically to provide the voice for an AI compared to cloning an actor's voice from their movies? Much of the coverage I've seen thorough social media on this (includi

Slightly off topic question. >That compared to a package of roughly $22.6m (£17m) in 2022. This man already had $22 million dollars. What drives someone to even keep working once you have that kind of money. You could live your life over

I read an anecdote once that novelist Jonathan Franzen writes on a laptop which has had the WiFi card removed and Ethernet port glued shut. He's pretty successful so whatever works imo.

I mean, if you had purchased one Bitcoin in 2016 and held it until today you'd be be up at least $65,000. If that's snake oil then oil me up.

I'd also be curious about this as I am presently dealing with some PDFs with both handwriting and poorly scanned type. I can read and understand these documents but the text is not recognized using tesseract OCR.

I'm reminded of a quote by the late poet David Antin, which I can not find at the moment, but found one which gets at a similar idea, which I think is relevant here because really theres two types of news: the kind you can predict will

My issue with your argument is in what world is a net worth of $20 million not "ultra rich." The median net worth of an individual near retirement age is $400,000. Under 35 it's a tenth of that. I don't really have an op

This almost happened to me taking a rented U-Haul down the parkways in New York, which have notoriously low overpasses. It was like the 2nd smallest box truck you could rent and I still seem to recall having to pull off to the side of the r

You can already choose the desired date range in ngram viewer. I can see how this is troubling, but I think it could also be, if not useful, at least interesting to compare ngram results pre and post GPT.

To my knowledge, the model being used for this is "chirp" which is 'based on' bark[1], an AI text to speech model. The github page for bark links to a page about chirp, which returns a 404 page for me [2]. My guess is th

Yeah it's somewhere near half a million people per year in the US die from diseases caused by cigarette smoking. Fent's body count last I checked was like 77,000. Whether they are a fair comparison I'm not sure. It might be m

You're saying that diarization quality is dependent on speaker isolation? I should have clarified, to my knowledge whisper does not perform that step, and whether I need to do diarization is what I'm trying to figure out. (Probabl

If you're broke, get a refurbished/used Nvidia P40. Same amount of vram as a 3090, between 4 and 10 times cheaper depending on how cheap you can find a 3090. Granted it's slower of course, but best bang for your buck on vram,
