For a tiny distribution, puppy or slitaz work quite well. Also, I would say that Arch Linux can be as tiny as you want, but it's not a fire and forget solution and I wouldn't want to maintain an Arch system for friends or relative

I have had good results with Syntastic for Vim. Running :SyntasticInfo lists 'sh' as the linting program for bash scripts.

I was confused after reading your comment, as I initially ran "git grep" in my $HOME and it worked fine. Then I remembered that my $HOME is managed using git! Indeed, it doesn't work in a non git directory without the switch.

There's a minor typo below the HTTPS section. It should be TLS not TSL ;) Edit: By the way, it was a nice article. I especially liked the tcpdump explanation.
