My completely unfounded tin foil hat at the moment is that ECC was pushed as a standard not because it was faster/ smaller, but the smaller bit size makes it less quantum resistant and is more prone to be broken first (if not already)

Okay, but apart from orthography and aquaducts, what have the Romans ever done for us? Now as punishment go write this on the wall 100 times!

I'm convinced the path to ubiquity (such as embedded in smartphones) is quantization. I had to int4 a llama model to get it to properly run on my 3060. I'm curious, how much resolution / significant digits do we actually need

The closest I can think of is ULF radio, which has two properties - extreme range and penetration, at the expense of extremely low bandwidth. My understanding is that it is used to communicate with underwater subs, but likely on the form of

Nice to see a fellow enthusiast here, this is a nice point that different hardware will have different levels of related risk. But this is kind of an entire class of attack where similar paths may be able to be used on these other controlle

<Tinfoil hat> I think there's more than meets the eye here. I think part of the reason MS is enforcing TPM2.0 and now this SBAT update is that there is widespread rootkit level malware and they are trying to stay ahead of the cur

If you follow CISA vulns and guidelines, it's all industrial controllers getting hacked and pushing for memory safety for like a year straight. (On a side note, pleasantly surprised to see a Linux kernel android bug today)
