Did they provide any evidence of that, or was it just editorializing? It's not uncommon for new users to start out with limited privileges on some platforms for spam and fraud prevention reasons.

How is that Parkinson's law and not a success story of market competition? Isn't it that the highly competitive car market forces legacy manufacturers to accept lower margins? If anything, we should welcome greater competition to

I found some speculation that you might be able to build one out of thorium from smoke detectors and lanterns, as in the David Hahn case, but not much. No way this would be legal though.

I went to protests all summer where the cops were beating the shit out of people for standing on the street outside an empty building. They sure as hell weren't removing the cordons and taking selfies with people inside.

I agree with the first paragraph, but strongly disagree with the second. Those regimes that filtered information very narrowly constrained ideas to align with the status quo. That was sometimes good, but often held back people with minority

Given the laxity of our pandemic response so far, I'm fairly skeptical of this theory in the US at least. We can't even force people to wear masks or lock down, why would we be able to force them to get vaccines? Hell, we're

Do we have comparable results for challenge trials with other vaccines? I thought the 90% numbers for the COVID vaccines sounded bad until I read that other vaccines we routinely use are in the 80s. Additionally, AFAIK we don't actuall

Switzerland is only the 13th most dense country in Europe. Notably, the UK and Germany are more dense.

I'm sure people will praise this, but how do you run a modern website with no analytics? How do you know if people use the features you build?

Eh, I always appreciate the early adopters who provide feedback and pressure on devs to fix the games so that I can play a much better game 6 months or a year later.

I always try to buy individual drugs for this reason. If I want DayQuil, I look at the ingredients on the box, and buy each of them individually. Then I only take the ones I need.

I took night trains a handful of times in China, and loved it. China is big enough that you can get a nice long journey in. I found that people were respectful and quiet for the most part, so I didn't have any trouble sleeping.

You're missing a night somewhere. Day 1 10:00 - Day 1 14:00 means you need a hotel room Day 1. Day 1 22:00 - Day 2 10:00 (more like 6:00 IME tho) means no hotel room for Day 1. Train stations in Germany at least generally have luggage

If you're in the US, you can look at the federal planning as well as the plans for your state most likely. From what I've seen, they look pretty reasonable.

I feel like the problems (to the extent there are problems—covid aside, a lot of things are going pretty well is my understanding) are more structural in nature. Right now, afaik the fed is pursuing a strategy of cheap capital, with the ide

I used to use Q-tips all the time because my ears were always itchy from the earwax (ew, sorry.) My doctor told me the q-tips were irritating the inside of my ear, and that's why they were itchy. I stopped using Q-tips, and after a few

I'm generally a fan of miniseries, but I wonder what pressure the producers are putting on creators to lengthen them. I loved the Chernobyl miniseries for example, but I also think it was maybe 1-2 episodes longer than it needed to be.

It's an outcome of polarization, imo. One side says government spending is evil so don't do any, so the other says government spending is an inherent good unto itself, so damn the costs.

I wish sites like this could take a positive tone instead of a negative one. Referring to sites that don't conform to your pet preferences as cancerous is deeply off-putting to me.

1) Many websites are not news sites. In fact, I'd guess the vast majority. So this point doesn't feel relevant. 2) Sometimes things might be useful to people other than you. The world doesn't exist to cater to your needs, and

What's striking in this thread is the equation of masculine toughness with unhealthy things like getting in bar fights and doing drugs. Reading the report, men think their sons are less tough than their daughters. Putting these two tog
