> A carbon tax would be more popular at if it was redistributed to the citizenry. The Washington state plan included this redistribution. People didn't go for it.

Why is there a requirement that power be generated within 300 miles? NYC already gets plenty of power from further away than that. With HVDC transmission, we can transmit power thousands of miles efficiently. PNW hydro power is used in LA,

I'm not convinced a carbon tax is politically viable. For some reason, they are incredibly unpopular. In very blue Washington state, they've made several attempts to pass one, and each has failed. The most recent was basically the

They do, but they learned from it. What probability would you give to the US learning anything from this crisis? Personally I would say between zero and snowball's chance in hell.

But to your parent's point, the US outcome was comparable to other countries we'd consider peers, like the UK and France. I feel like this point, that other similar countries did poorly, is sometimes missed when talking about the

You're looking at the case-fatality ratio, your parent is looking at the deaths per 100k population. Looking at these two numbers suggests to me that while the US did very well at treating cases, we allowed far too many people to becom

There may be some nuance I'm missing, but in fact the US currently has this requirement. > Effective January 26, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will require all air passengers two years of age and over entering

A big part of me wonders if this was the point of this whole exercise. A certain subset of employees are getting too uppity, so you just tell them to fuck off and then show them the door. Theoretically you could fire them, but that might ri

I find this type of rant rather unhelpful in this debate. It is not the case that there is no reason for soldered parts. This decision was not made out of spite or laziness. It was done because there was a belief that the product would be b

You can already buy some replacement parts, like screens and backs. It doesn't seem like you can replace the motherboard, so that would be a fair point. I wouldn't objecting to coding this into law, but I'm not sure why your

Cheekily, this also means that if you're losing weight, you are a net emitter of CO2, thus hastening global warming. On the other hand, if you gain weight, you are a net sink. Of course the carbon cost of food production does… complica

It seems like cameras with decent sensors start around $500, though most cluster around $700+. I sort of wonder if no one has had the chutzpah to test whether there's a market for $500 webcams. I was personally a little surprised when

From what I understand, you risk getting margin called if the value of ethereum drops below the loan amount, so wouldn't you potentially need a large cash pool to offset that risk anyway?

The problem with these cards is actually being able to get one. Even if you've got the $2k to spend for a 3090, good luck with finding stock.

I was wondering about this. My guess (just a guess) was that since he wants to still work in this industry, he was afraid that abandoning the ship would hurt his career? Either that, or he's just an incredibly responsible person.

Been using a CalDigit dock with two 2017 Macbook Pros (one work, one personal), basically zero problems. There was a slight hitch with the ethernet port when I first started, but it wasn't hard to fix.

Ahh that makes more sense. My preference has been to use an ORM for your normal CRUD, but write more advanced queries using SQL (or sometimes just write the where clause using SQL, if the select is otherwise simple.) I am not a fan of query
