The "old web" never really went a way. The "new web" just got better and more engaging. I still use my rss reader as my primary way to connect to the internet, but rss has problems and the readers did not evolve to solve

I think the problem is that there are so many different standards[0] which makes it hard to parse them in a uniform format. The second problem is the most feeds only have 15 items, even if a reader handles updates they are fast lost for eve

I like the idea of 404 media to provide a paid full text rss feed. This makes it a lot better for publishers.

I think the main reason why rss failed is the lack of an algorithmic feed. If you follow just a few news sites you drown in articles. The social media sites are much better in filtering out stuff you do not want to see.
