What do you do at your startup... is it similar to any open source tools, or does it rely on a lot of open source tools / libraries? Who commits to that open source project the most? Is their code written well? Send them a message on gi

"Still, work is a 7 minute walk away and I live in Manhattan. That's hard to beat." For you obviously. Some people don't want to live in a big city, or especially some place like Manhattan. It is all in the eye of the beholder. I live in

I think I heard next week sometime the 1.0 ready ripple will be out. As others have said all clients will work with riak 1.0, they just might not support all of the new hotness.

That was my exact same thought. I've met some bright grads, but they still are way less effective in the real world than an experienced software engineer. I can't believe we are back to the boom days of 100k + bonus straight out of scho

Other: Money isn't everything, and I'd rather have relationships and free time over the need to build something. If I really need to build something from the ground up I go into my garage. I make good money, work at a startup (but not a

Riak users have had quite the opposite results based on talks given at conferences and videos put online. Yammer, Voxer, Formspring, Bump are all riak customers and all have a video out there somewhere talking about how much the like riak

Companies in the past have definitely made dumb decisions you are right about that, but typically they don't just kill off their main cash cow for no apparent reason. That's all I'm saying. All of the "why would he do this?!?" posts are

Most successful business don't make huge decisions like this if there wasn't a reason. And instead of speculation, we know why this split is happening. Think back with "The Social Network" was pulled from Netflix. The reason was that

You have to realize how fast it happened, I'm sure their brains have barely had time to process what happened let alone telling the rest of their body to get the hell out of there. 400-500mph is REALLY fast.

I would use it if it allowed groups to keep all of their issues in one place. Our organization has 20+ repos, so having 20+ bug trackers is pretty dumb. If they make a toplevel issue tracker, I think we'd switch to it.

Most people using github for their everyday work do it the way Scott mentioned. Github's pull request system is fundamental to its success and everyone I know's workflow.

I don't use jenkins, I use buildbot, but I'm sure it is quite similar. If you use github's post-receive hooks it reports all branches not just master when something changes. So if jenkins can build from a posted JSON object, it is quite

I disagree with the notion that you "need" to sit or stand. I've been standing while working for over a year now. I stand for 8+ hours a day, and even when I take a lunch break I find myself standing while eating. My standing desk is jus
