only thing i can think of is its one char off of testis. but i don't know if it would be that big of a deal. in the same ballpark as "pens.com" being one letter off of penis. unless there's something else? and i couldn't come up with a b

i agree. but the paper doesn't bring up only disease. it includes other factors that i'm not sure necessarily follow.

and i suppose what i'm trying to say is that if you have a group large enough to outgrow hunting/gathering, its likely to be large enough to generate at least some of the issues described in the article attributed to large groups of people.

i was just using "city" as a placeholder since it was used in the article. most of the problems mentioned in the article are perfectly capable of surfacing at a much smaller settlement size.

why? i see one or two possible issues but nothing like experts exchange. insight would be appreciated

perhaps. i'd be interested to read more on the topic. but to play devil's advocate: agriculture requires us to settle in one place for a length of time. so does building shelter. a lot of things require at least semi-permanent settling

perhaps i could've worded it better -- the mistake (imo) wasn't choosing agriculture, agriculture was a necessary byproduct required to facilitate living in cities. chicken/egg problem

i agree, and thats something that i'll be getting in there soon. my "weekend project" dragged out into wednesday, and the visible site is only one step up from bare-bones text. i probably should've held it until next weekend and polished

i tend to think that agriculture was a necessity based on population density and the formation of towns/cities. too many people in one place means there needs to be a renewable source of food. hunting and gathering for hundreds would even

"real company" is relative, and what the person does with the weekend project is rather up to them. i just posted a new weekend project, and some of my past weekend projects have turned into profit. i've also totally abandoned some, as wel

not yet, but its not too tough to figure out since there aren't many options yet. i'll see about writing something up as soon as possible, though, as well as adding more information inline.

1) support isn't scalable, but if you're looking to pull yourself out of stagnation, then you shouldn't discount options just because they won't scale well. 2) this is the option that scales the best. how long ago did you look at the numbe

difference here was that they weren't fake or counterfit. they staged and bribed their way into getting their stuff certified, despite the production line being way under quality.

1) not every addon at every place like this immediately costs more. 2) your setup is the more common one, using services like this are less common. i have my own cheap servers that host multiple pages, as well, and i'm not going to switch

true, getting something nontrivial set up isn't tough, and thats why (i think) the pricing isn't as steep as something like engine yard. this isn't meant for the people who're more than willing to do it themselves. but don't you think that

i prefer a combination of other suggestions in the giant thread: 1) hide points 2) on the front page, randomly pepper in new submissions. like, perhaps the top 5 will always be the true top 5, but the rest of the front page will have 5 ran
