A phone is a physical device. You own your phone. This argument is tantamount to saying MSFT owns windows and so deserves 30% of all purchases made through IE. This is insane. If Apple wants to provide infrastructure developers can use for

I'm not sure I follow. A lot of your thinking seems to be predicated on the fact that Apple somehow owns your phone after you purchase it. They don't - you do. That's why you give them money for it. Apple has tried to argue that it needs to

Sure. These are 'heavy' accusations. I feel pretty strongly about seeing a company I like go down this road. They are attempting to steal, and their behavior is dishonest and anti-competitive. If they want to make money selling books or sub

Once you have purchased a phone from Apple - doesn't it cease to be their device? Doesn't this all seem a little wrong?

So microsoft would be within their rights to take a 30% cut of all cash flows from subscriptions made using internet explorer? What about 30% of all sales of Windows Software? Where does the ownership of the OS author end and the ownership

Full disclosure: I generally like apple products and have used NeXT / apple products for a long time. I don't see how Apple's stance here is defensible or honest. They using their position as a large platform provider to steal from 3rd part

I actually viewed this as kind of snarky. I don't see why disappointment is an unacceptable response. I was kind of dissapointed to see that this is where they were going for mobile apps.

I find that I used to do most of my work without nibs and do it in loadView. In recent releases I've been using xibs for a lot of the base layout and doing the rest in viewDidLoad. 99% of the time you can create most of your interface in IB

Please be warned. I've been a longtime google voice user and for the past few months text messages from AT&T senders have been dropping silently at a very high rate. This is a very bad problem as the sender thinks you have received the

Has anybody else had a completely horrid experience with google voice? I've consistently had a problem where a large percentage of text messages sent to my google voice number from AT&T customers simply don't show up. (either in the web

I've been following his advice as well and getting great results. As my over can't get that hot (max 550f) I have found I get the best results if I do a 1 hour rise after preparation and then put them in the fridge for 2 days. Then I make s

I would hope that if our notion of free speech protects pornography, it protects important political speech like this.

It looks like a lot of your bottom links are staying on the tv. subdomain, but don't resolve to anything there. (i.e. tv.airbnb/jobs 404s, the links should probably go to www.

Sure, sorry about the delay. http://gist.github.com/621130 I can't take credit for the solution I posted though. I originally wrote a naive O(N^2) complexity solution (which was much shorter and was fine for the length of the input) I had

No body just dumps all 75,000 in one transaction. The order is filled over a period of time. W/R didn't dump either, actually further analysis shows that they sold the majority of their contracts after the crash http://www.zerohedge.com/

Sorry, been a while since I looked @ all these definitions and I was typing from memory. A discouraged worker is one who has looked for work at some point in the last 12 months, but is no longer looking because they believe there is no work

Furthermore, if you search for work too long and don't find it (I believe 12 months?) The BLS classifies you as a 'discouraged worker' and removes you from the labor force. (You become 'marginally attached') This has the effect of juicing t

To further clarify: 75,000 e-mini contracts is not an astronomical amount. Orders of this size are not uncommon. To really understand what happened one must answer the question: what are the market conditions we have created such that a nor

This really isn't what caused the flash crash. The SEC either doesn't have a complete understanding of what happened, or is omitting swaths of data from their report. Nanex did a much better job writing this all up, and weeks before the SEC

I'm very surprised that nobody has mentioned the domination of modern banking over our present society. Most of the major nations of the world currently pay a fee to private banks for the privilege of circulating their own currency. Our cur

Some users of a (shipped, fairly heavily used) web app we had deployed were getting kicked back to the login screen at random. Sometimes, very frequently. Looking in the logs we could see that these users were somehow losing their authentic
