Makes sense, thanks for your understanding! As I alluded to, I think you can make a convincing projection that the future state will be worse. It’s just that the current situation is still within the bounds of expectation, so it’s not itsel

Being laid off isn’t sufficient to make this a bad situation for high performers. If they’re getting new jobs quickly, it’s just a short-term setback. Note that I’m not commenting on how high performers are doing in terms of getting new job

HFT, prop trading, market makers and the like are also finance firms right? They are still pretty coveted by those who are aware of their existence. Jump Trading, Citadel, Jane Street, DE Shaw etc are considered highly prestigious and compe

Agree that strategically lock in is a concern, but getting on AWS at least removes the inertia of moving to cloud. It’s probably much easier to go from on prem to cloud to multicloud than on prem to multicloud directly - especially at the t

I interned there a couple years ago. It was nice to use tech that was more standardized than proprietary / internal so that the skills were easily transferable. From a business perspective it takes you out of the business of managing y

I somewhat agree with the demotivation aspect, but you don’t need to change your process. 10x is a descriptor of productivity not time spent. You can still do what made you a 10x (e.g. read docs from scratch to get an understanding of every

As someone who's always heard that US pays much better but never verified it, this was interesting to look into. According to levels.fyi, 90th percentile in the Greater Seattle area [0] is $344-363k USD while 90th percentile in the Gre

I think your implication that there is some unspoken upper limit is valid, but as long as said upper limit is more than what you would have gotten for vacation days (8 weeks, or 40 days, seems way beyond the normal amount. Microsoft started

Holy cow, you had hundreds of thousands of dollars of assets and couldn’t be bothered to figure out how to cash out before they lost value? You are on a different planet of financial management than most of us.

How did you get started in this kind of role? Did you first create your own content and then publishers reached out because of it?

If the vast majority of applicants from one bootcamp claim to be employed by them then I can see why you would be suspicious, but I’d be hesitant to throw out all bootcamp grads who say they’ve been employed by their bootcamp. There might b

That’s a good point! However, there’s still things Python could do to help make the experience better. The package I was using had multiple artifacts per version, including the raw zipped source code and wheels for each ABI they built for.

Not sure what you mean. pex is the dependency lock, at least from a version perspective. To be clear, it broke after I intentionally upgraded the offending package to the later version. I admit to being unaware of "versions inside vers

Agree. I had a build pipeline pulling down an internal package to build into a `.pex` [0] file for running a Python program in a release pipeline that did not have access to the internal package repository. I came up with this solution beca

I hard disagree with your disagree :) 1. Some candidates only need to brush up to be in interview shape. 2. To mitigate the need to spend time to prepare, simply use initial assessments to get back in shape. That is, apply to and interview
