Hah. I've been working on my own engine for over a decade, and I completely relate to this. I've torn it down and rebuilt it a few times, I've got multiple branches of it that are built for specific things... but when I want

I wish there were more interest in general in building true deterministic simulations than black boxes that hallucinate and can't show their work.

Those things do show an intergenerational evolution of complex techniques, though, if only by trial and error. Certainly at some level they must have understood the tumor to be the cause of a malady, for instance. Even now we know of drugs

By chance I came across this after yesterday flying for the first time over the eastern edge of the Yucatan. The turqoise color of the water is otherworldly. I love that they draw the comparison, as this pigment really does resemble it!

This is the old made new again. History is cluttered with hucksters who sold some product they hyped as being good for humanity. When you get right down to it, there's a lot of stuff you can do that's good for yourself that isn&#x

Thank you. I am / have been a digital nomad since 2006. Wired Magazine even published an article about us back then in our solar van in Australia trying to find 2G internet. I feel quite old ;) But after all this time, I am still depen

Yeah, but why would I want to spend any of my time fixing anything on a machine from 2009, when the whole point is that it's a perfectly good system that does what I need when I need it?

I pretty much only use computers to create. If I want to consume, I use a phone or something. I don't consume much. So, like, if I boot up my Air from 2009, it's to write AS3 code and make a demo or something. If I boot up the one

Just to play devil's advocate here... I'm about as extreme a privacy absolutist as you can find. But given that we're all on camera all the time in public spaces, like it or not, I don't consider tracking on digital bi

LA to SF doesn't make a lot of sense to me as an overnight route. Suppose you leave at 10pm. You get in at maybe 4am, maybe you got 5 hours of sleep, and have to wait 12 hours to check into a hotel...? 6 hours is maybe justifiable for
