The announcement marks a change of heart by the government, which declined last year to grant pardons to the 49,000 gay men, now dead, who were convicted under the 1885 Criminal Law Amendment Act. They include Oscar Wilde. Pardoning only

Private space for everyone costs more. The entire point of the open plan is to save money, but it gets sold as something entirely different.

Property taxes are, effectively, rent paid to the local government by people who otherwise think that they own said property. Fail to pay it, and you get evicted. It is quite a racket already, but combine this with crony deals with privat

We know the US isn't the only country engaged in widespread spying. I'd be surprised if Brazil isn't doing it. We're all probably better off assuming that any country that can spy, is doing it. Of course, people can ca

So after these revelations of government spying, the idea is to trust email to a government? There is a potential user of such a system born every minute, I suppose.

In some workplaces, not fitting into the social clubs makes you a poor "cultural fit". You have to go to the right meetups, drink the right beers with the right people, and so on. Contract extensions and promotions depend on it. T

I'm close to Ottawa. You can get by if you are riding mostly downtown, but if you're riding a road bike, it gets treacherous elsewhere very quickly. Fatter tires surely help.

Ottawa-Gatineau area, in my case. The downtown areas can often be clear of snow/ice, but not if you're on the outskirts. In this case it isn't the gear so much as the tire width.

I have to concur with the exercise-as-commute routine. I also cycle to/from work. My ride home, where I keep a brisk pace with some sprints mixed in, is actually my real workout. It is quite satisfying to arrive home having already wor

People create threads to discuss hellbans (or shadowbans, or whatever others might prefer) from time to time, too. Hellbanning is a practice that I find almost embarrassing. Browse this site with "show dead" enabled, and you'

Part of this is the result of capitalism (for better or worse), sure, but this story is specifically about government trying to take a broom to a certain part of the population, and sweep them out.

On what basis can they even mandate such a ban? Is it based on the government's ownership of roads? In that case, can you live in your car on private property (parking lots, driveways, etc)? The article doesn't give enough info.
