Compare with Seattle, by the way, which just has a Sound Transit stop right on the Microsoft campus, easily accessible from Belltown and Cap Hill. If there's one thing that frustrated me moving from Microsoft to Google, it's the s

This annoys me greatly. Whether or not the book itself was bad, an open platform shouldn't have to apologize for not immediately censoring its users on public outrage. To the contrary, I would have expected an apology if, given the fir

I care exactly zero about who Edward Snowden is. As far as I'm concerned, he could be a dick who loves kicking puppies and taking candy from children. What I do care about is, you know, the NSA spying on my phone calls and emails.

Yes. Standards should be designed by committee, ensuring as many cooks are helping the broth as possible. Much like UNIX and C came out of large standards consortia composed of many industry leaders, and like the HTML5 standards evolved inc

That's what he's saying. If this is the NSA telling us what the s-boxes for DSA are, what's the equivalent to the DSA understanding differential cryptanalysis when designing the s-boxes?

It depends. In algorithm classes, there are often many right answers, including ones you haven't thought of before. Same goes for most college math.

I don't get why people like rebasing as an alternative to merging. It works kind of OK for small histories, but if you do something slightly complex or your history is not meticulous, rebasing becomes extremly tedious. The worse example is

I fundamentally disagree with the idea that consuming cultural artifacts that happen to correlate with liking engineering has anything to do with liking engineering. If you think liking Star Wars is necessary for being an engineer, you're p

I think overall the big difference I see between interesting startups and boring ones is that interesting startups try to expand into a wider platform rather than just solve the small problem they were designated to solve.

I might, actually. A huge part of the reason I own a VPS is precisely because I don't own a desktop, and having a persistent networked machine comes in handy often.

IMO neither of these is true. Vine can't replace YouTube in any meaningful capacity, but it will change the way we think about video on the internet on a very fundamental level.

Not that the FB privacy disclaimer deals specifically with the copyright on deleted content. Specifically, you do rescind your license to FB by deleting content, but only if no references to it exist (i.e. it has not been reshared or all re

I have a buddy who has an international Galaxy Note II, and for what it's worth, I think the screen looks magnificent compared to the screen of the Nexus 7, which isn't half bad (my phone is a Nexus S 4G, so the comparison is moot).

The discussion on the pull request is interesting, and illustrates the trouble with DNT being "default" -- ignore it, and users who opted into actual DNT are now harmed.

Honestly, the whole mantra of "differentiation" is a bit tired. Most android "differentiation" is terrible, and I'd rather have vanilla Android over "differentiated" bullshit any day.
