Second michaels' reply. I encountered the term in my compilers class in college, so I don't think it's that new.

Whenever I read HN on my laptop and was about to switch to my desktop computer at home, I found there was no easy way to send the tabs I had open over to my desktop machine easily. So I made this extension to solve that problem. Here's a 14

Tipfy is nice, but its documentation is horribly out-of-date. The last time I tried using it, I had to dive into the source code several times to figure out what was going on. Eventually I ended up moving off of app engine. (I considered co

Yeah, DotCloud is all about hosting apps on their platform. ;) They have support for background processes, redis, postgres, and wsgi, so they were basically perfect for my use case. The best place to get started is DotCloud's own docs, as w

Also, thanks for reporting the issue with the example link. It's still working for me, though (it's supposed to fill in the URL field with a URL to a text file). What browser are you using?

People might use it for different things, but I made it so that I'd have a convenient way to download a file to my desktop from my phone. Using the native Dropbox client, I'd have to download the file to my phone first, then upload it.

The app is completely run and hosted on DotCloud, so bandwidth is limited by their capacity. Right now when you submit a URL it's added to a global queue, and a separate python process goes through that queue and uploads them asynchronously

Thanks for the tips. My recent projects have been in Python or JS, but I've been looking into things like PyDev or PyCharm so I can do stuff like this. Thus far I haven't been using anything much more heavyweight than a text editor. When I

For the evens_only implementation, is there a reason to use map/filter vs a generator? eg: evens_only = lambda nums: [n/2 for n in nums if n%2==0] seems to work just as well.

Our server load is already pretty high right now as it is, so we can't really afford to provide the service without this slight barrier.

Thanks for the info! There are many many usability things that we didn't get around to implementing due to restrictions in App Engine's and Facebook's python APIs, but we plan to make the flow more pleasant in future iterations.
