On SGI it was TAV (The Advanced Visualizer) from Wavefront. Wavefront bought TDI Explore which was used by a ton of studios. Wavefront then released Kinematic and Dynamation which were both game changers for IK and particles. Softimage was

The problem is that it is garbage and has always been garbage. I just bought my wife a new laptop that had 11 pre-installed. It REQUIRES a MS account to use the laptop. So I returned it today and got her a Mac. Problem solved.
