Wow, this kept getting better and better, I didn't expect to make it through the entire text. Some parts are shocking.

Thanks for the reply. I guess forking each repo wouldn't scale well?

I recently ordered a cheap product from a vendor in china. As I found out later this vendor has 99% negative reviews that all say the same: money taken, product not delivered, and this has been going on for months. At least I got my money b

That's my point, you don't gain anything except a different directory structure. And if you stuff everything into one directory, size.

If you can't distribute individual directories/packages as stand-alone apps this entire exercise seems pointless, it just becomes a fancy filesystem hierarchy.

The "how can this possibly work" section shows the problem: System libraries are links to app directories. Basically, you end up bundling the same libs over and over again in your applications. Just imagine having several identica

My bank does this as well. It's unfathomable, they went straight from a 90s site to a touch-friendly-desktop-hostile site. Not sure if incompetent devs or stupid management, or both.

WordPress isn't even properly GPL-licensed. No license in the top-level app file [1] [2]. The included license file doesn't selectively attach itself to all relevant files, and not to source files that have a different license [3]

You're absolutely right. OP picked an arbitrary feature though without telling how it affects the world around him and resorted to hyperbole. You actually have a point.

Does Photoshop have an open source license yet? If not, they can make all they want, but Photoshop will still be lagging 20 years behind GIMP. See how silly that sounds?

Smart contracts that can be modified post-hoc, through consensus or (after a precedent was made that it is possible) legislation or a judge are not smart.

Notice how in the article nothing is "built", all that happens is an npm install. It sounds like make is used to manage a project and perhaps do things like running unit tests, pushing code to stage/qa/prod, fetch data f

Make is a great tool for automating simple things, but if you use a programming language you should probably use native automation tools for common tasks. If you have any non-trivial logic or want to enable code-reuse make doesn't seem

This entire thing is just bizarre, I feel like there's a lack of openness from both sides in their communication. No side tries to inform their users about what really happened. I guess the best case is that one side (or both) can'

> It's tough! It really depends on which tools you use. Yes, wp has a horrific URL routing mechanism, and on top of that can randomly redirect 404 pages by guessing the target.

I don't know, I don't want letsencrypt to touch my config files. It just works fine without that "magic" anyway if you're willing to add a few lines to a config file.

The official letsencrypt client never touched any of my config files, it doesn't have to if you prefer to do it yourself.

It makes absolutely no difference by how much the block size is increased, it would always be an incompatible fork of the network, and that's contentious. That making a "small" change is some kind of compromomise is a lie tol
