Oh, it's a question about PHP... Anyway, I either use the one that's official for the language, the one that applies to the project I'm just working on, or the one that seems the most sensible to me. For the latter I normally

Years ago I built a site with iipimage, http://iipimage.sourceforge.net/demo/ . I'm wondering if there are other tools around somebody here uses?

Themes being PHP code or plugins being hosted on wordpress.org without any code review isn't beyond anybody's control. Of course the former will never be fixed, there is no deprecation policy. But yeah, if you have to host such so

Thing is the code will also become less readable for many people if your line is longer than 79 chars. My terminals have a fixed width so that they fit perfectly side by side on my multiple monitors. Using random higher numbers just means t

It's interesting that you and vijayboyapati focus on this one paragraph of a much longer reply, and that you perceive correcting somebody as attacking them. Indeed, that's something that hasn't gotten better over the years, a

I have a feeling it's a good thing that game developers don't work on curing cancer. I know this isn't what the article is about, but the headline makes it sound so.

At least Bing supports the hash fragment as well, but it looks like you have to enable it manually http://www.bing.com/blogs/webmaster/f/12248/p/671232/9669509...

You have to support non-JS browsers if you want to support search engines crawling your sites. The hash fragment is a non-JS method that only works with search engines. Why not use something that works with noscript browsers as well, and in

Having the same meta description on every page could lead to incorrect SERP snippets. See also https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35624?hl=en Though such an obvious error is hopefully always ignored.

No, that's wrong. You just use links to /the/normal/looking/URL and let the browser use JS instead when it can. And obviously you serve the real content at /the/normal/looking/URL instead of behi

I find it a little odd that this article focuses on the hash fragment approach and only mentions the HTML5 pushState in passing, and how to avoid it. There are a few scenarios where the hash fragment is more useful (states that don't m

Nice, I hope you can build something good with this. Personally, I like the HN frontpage because so many news items fit on it. So a little too much whitespace for my taste.

This looks interesting, even if it doesn't look like HN at all. What would interest me is some background, how is this connected to know incubators/investors? A link to an informative English article would have been nice.

Most "sites/blogs" can't handle the traffic that reddit sends when content makes it to a popular page. Users have learned the hard way that imgur (and a few others) are the only reliable links. Personally, I almost never

Isn't the more interesting aspect of HN how it scales? Simply writing a few models, views and templates is certainly a nice exercise but only a first step. Not to mention getting the audience, but that's not really a technical problem.
