That doesn't make sense. Even if my whole strategy WAS to get acquired, I wouldn't plaster it in 48-pt font on the website. What do you think Twitter's strategy is? It's a pretty cool idea, but I fail to see how anyone could monetize it. Do

You mean "sending hotness" is not a sustainable business model? :)

I agree entirely, but you have to look at it from the perspective of the investor. The only way they actually get paid is if the company has a liquidation event. That's (at least in my understanding) why all VCs want to know your exit strat

Is it really okay to say you're not sure about revenue? I keep reading that that's one thing you really need to nail down. (Then again, I see these companies like Twitter with no realistic business model get funding...)

That's interesting. I've always been uncomfortable even describing my exit strategy, because it seems to be like presenting one means my idea is just the means to an end. Not only is that not really how I feel, but it's sort of at odds with

Spolsky has a lot of good things to say, but he does take it a little too far sometimes. His technical credibility took a major hit in my eyes when I heard about the mess that is Wasabi. Still, the way he runs his company is very innovative

There's been a lot of press around that application. That seems pretty shady. Maybe it's been compromised?

I disagree. I still don't think any app that's been created really takes advantage of the Facebook platform. The toy applications are the easiest and most obvious ones to create. The real ones will come later, particularly when they start i

Dear Robert Scoble, please stop being the Paris Hilton of the blog world and do something relevant. Although, I will say that the Kindle misses the mark. Too expensive and not open enough.

I live in Northeast Ohio. My major concern is that if I try to shop around my business plan in my area, investors won't understand half of what I'm talking about. I'm not speaking from experience, mind you, but the area is not exactly a pow

The trouble is, no walled garden will be able to replace email. Email works because it's open -- anyone who can set up an MX record and an SMTP server can send and receive email. Social networks will succeed if someone can figure out how to

I agree that the Facebook site itself is nothing special, but the data that they control is. The next class of people graduating from college will have had Facebook throughout their entire tenure. It's likely that Facebook will try to evolv

There still has yet to be an application that takes advantage of the real value of the Facebook platform. Current applications are all about virility and simple fun. While there's nothing wrong with that, the social information about Facebo

I didn't make the first comment. I just showed up to say that you were completely wrong in your retort. I also don't know exactly what you're arguing about, so I'll just let you ramble in peace. :)

I'm disappointed that no one here has mentioned MonoRail (www.castleproject.org). When people say they hate ASP.NET, what they're really saying is that they hate WebForms. WebForms are an abomination that should be stricken from the earth.

Rapid design is not necessarily sustainable design. The "speed of development" argument for RoR is about maintenance and flexibility rather than getting it done fast. (By day I'm a C# developer, by night a Ruby one. ;)

No offense, but you clearly have not used both languages. When you consider the platform in addition to the syntax, C# is absolutely nothing like C++. C# is managed, garbage collected, bytecode-based and JITted. Saying C++ and C# are simila

I think it really depends. Most of the applications that currently exist on Facebook are defined by Facebook itself. That is to say, the applications add to the features of Facebook, rather than Facebook adding to the application. I think t

While they might resist at first, Facebook is likely to join in and support the OpenSocial API. That doesn't mean F8 is going anywhere, but OpenSocial has a lot of potential to unify social networks on the web, and I doubt Facebook wants to

I think this is going to change very soon. They're close to unveiling a targeted ad system. As smart as AdSense is (targeting ads to content of a page), targeting them to the specific preferences of a user is even more compelling.

If they can legally do it, I'm sure they'll re-issue options to avoid that very problem. Not sure what the restrictions are for private companies.
