I looked up the numbers recently. Combined, 14 of the world's largest space agencies (including NASA and Roscosmos) spend an Apollo program every ~3 years. A 33% funding boost consolidated into one effort could be a permanent Apollo pr

Everyone has a sustainable comfort level. For most (single) people, that level is well above poverty, but well below a typical Silicon Valley programmer income. It's what you end up spending on ordinary monthly bills, food, and other r

To get the regular mantra out of the way: Humans are always the weakest link. But, speaking algorithmically, it is likely you can rely on a well-vetted symmetric algorithm like AES, used conservatively according to current best practices, t

Well, we have at least twice as many data points as that. IBM discovered differential cryptanalysis in the early 70s, and the NSA apparently knew about it before then, and nobody else found out until the late 80s. I don't know what org

"Integer multiple" in relation to "wage" combined with the mention of being in line with Shanghai wages is clear in its intended meaning. And I still don't believe a word of your BS because you opened with an insult

I meant your final interpretation, but you already knew that, as would anyone else reading my comment. Absolutely no one who genuinely wants to address a linguistic ambiguity opens with calling it "pompous". There is simply no way

"Integer" is neither pompous nor technical-sounding. Your entire comment is just a really arrogant way of saying "I'm a pedantic jackass".

Last time I looked up the numbers, those workers were earning at least an integer multiple of the average wage for China, and were right about where you'd expect for someone in Shanghai (a highly privileged part of China). If you reall

I know of various proposals that offer a theoretical solution. The problem is getting it implemented, fully vetting the implementation, and getting everybody to use it. There were lots of ways we could have made touchscreen voting machines

Absolutely not. Until cryptographically-sound voting systems are pervasive and well-vetted, there is absolutely no hope of making online balloting both reliable and secret.

I wish you'd elaborate on those shortcomings, because individual transaction latency is the only real one I've found, and for most workloads, it's not nearly enough to overcome the HA and CPU scaling benefits.
