This is not a very impressive hack compared to the other submissions here. But still here is my 'hack', if you want to call it that way. When I was doing my graduate course in Computer Engineering, we had to submit loads of assignments each

Michael Arrington does know how to keep things interesting. Even if we resist, somehow articles from TechCrunch reach the front page of HN. Not that I have any real problem with it, but can we somehow filter the front page to contain a maxi

This is some kind of solution? He moved the obtrusive content from the sidebar to right inside the email? How am I supposed to include the catastrophic event reference in a corporate/business mail?

He is very good at analogies though. Read this: http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2009/07/why-cant-you-have-just... Even if what he tries to prove is correct, his reasoning for that is almost always wrong. Not wrong, but funny. I am sad that

I have been using Windows 7 as my primary OS for about 8 months now. It is very good and stable. The best improvement is of course the new taskbar which does make the process of managing your applications and open windows a lot more streaml

That is a very good point to remember when designing high traffic web applications. Add the functionality to switch the site to just text mode on the occasion of overwhelming traffic like the ones described above. Any pointers on how to do

I wonder what big scale incident will be so important and newsworthy that it would bring the web completely to a halt. If the likes of twitter and Google were prominent when 9/11 happened, that would have caused big enough congestion in all

One thing about marketing is that it will take time for people to get to know about a product and then decide to try it. How much time did it take for you to adopt twitter/google/whatever? Even for trying out free products people take month

[edit: Looks like my view is just plain wrong. Skip this and directly read the replies] IMHO email address fields need not be 254 characters in length. Something like 64 is perfectly defendable I think. Why would a person sign-up with an em

I have written a few articles in the web about programming topics and have published a few pages of source code too. Some of these articles are in the top results of Google for the right keywords. Now the problem is that I get emails asking

Exactly. People will always promote themselves. Give them a page like windycitizen.com/username to aggregate their stuff and they will start promoting that page.

You are very correct about these observations. I am an Indian myself, and some time ago I wrote an article that tried to explain why the engineers in Indian outsourcing companies tend to be of low quality: http://www.diovo.com/2008/08/why-

Some people are very good at dealing with others, the same way some others are good at dealing with computers. Of course, it is their natural ability. (That is why the salesman became a salesman!) Even if we do not have a natural ability to

I am probably not the best person to comment on this, but isn't this more counter-intutive than the original addition method? I have seen the addition stuff in many APIs like in C++ and Java. If we start using comma separated values as you

You are correct. That is exactly why this attack cannot be used to forge documents (at least in a direct way)! To forge a document, you need to find another document having the same hash. So it is a preimage attack. Using a collision attac

We are missing the point. Turning a browser into a web server is not a big leap in technology. That is not a hard problem. Why I am excited about Opera Unite and not about this firefox extension is that Opera themselves thinks that this wil
