Wouldn't it be easier to port the code to Julia? Had the chance to use it for some control theory problems and it feels much more modern and sane than Python - especially under the hood. On the other hand multiple dispatch and the way

Nice overview, another venue worth looking at is thin clients. Some models like the Fujitsu Futro s740 are passive cooled, draw only 3-4w idle, can encode hevc in hardware and support up to 16gb memory and a nvme drive. There is a nice over

Interesting take and it feels familiar. I'm definitely in the "I need a tool to keep complexity under control" camp but I don't see it as a bad thing. Coming from a support and sysadmin/ops position seeing the same

OpenWrt works for some modems pretty fine. It's not straight forward as the VDSL firmware can't often be distributed but poeple use it on avm Fritzbox devices. Also LTE devices are supported. Not sure about cable modems, probably

Article is light on the interesting details. How did they came in? Do these routers have open ports and services by default and answer to the Internet in a meaningful way? Couldn't someone grab different firmware versions and compare t

It's very good that ffmpeg gets support and the sovereign tech fund is a good idea but for me it again just highlights how perverted the incentives to support open source are. Millions of dollars are extracted by using ffmpeg from a lo

My point is that it could use 2l/100km if that would be the optimization target. Golf 8 is nowadays a few classes above what the Golf 1 was. It's also a rather big car compared to the Golf 1.

Sure but that's not the point. Reduced fuel consumption using hybrid technology works in the city. EVs are even better. It's just fascinating that the technology was there and wasn't improved upon in 25 years. We could drive

Dieselgate was about NOx emissions and avoiding using so much AdBlue. I'm not sure that a bigger tank for that would have a big impact. As it's happening in the exhaust system there shouldn't be an impact on fuel consumption.

Not only in the USA. Germany also has a growing number of big SUVs. What's interesting is that it was possible 25 years ago to build a 3 litre/100km car. The Audi A2. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_A2 N

From the outside it looks like only the new interface is actually in development anymore. When hitting the new interface on mobile you get often stuck on a page forcing you to use the app. The whole new interface feels like a big sales page

Made the mistake using btrfs for a Hadoop cluster at university in kernel 4.x times after reading that SLES uses it and after reading an interview on lwn with someone important, I think the maintainer at that time - that deemed it stable. T
