I think it's more people are excited about Kotlin because it gives you some of the best parts of Scala without the long tail of confusing stuff. Sure, it's not revolutionary, but if the base level for everyone is ratcheted up a n

Thanks for the tip. I was unaware. But of course, if I have to think about it, it's failed its primary function of pretending I shouldn't have to care :-P

It's admittedly a corner case, but I've searched phrases that contain URLs and have had them get treated as a URL rather than search phrase in Chrome. In that case, I just drop to google.com and issue the search from there.

Here's a non-comprehensive list of issues I have with bundler. Don't get me wrong, I think in many ways it's a lot better than what we had before. But I also don't believe it's advanced much since its initial debu

I appreciate the comment, but since this was in regards to Rails, the two options were basically use prepared statements or don't. You don't get any safety without them and have to rely on Rails, which does an admirable job, but

They do provide a nice safety net against SQL injection though. A problem that Rails has from time to time.

Check out the Firefox ESR builds. They're supported for 1 year. Not super long-term, but better than 6 weeks: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/

I don't think anyone running IE 7 honestly believes that. But the promise of the Web was you got to avoid minimum hardware requirements and things worked everywhere. HTML and CSS were supposed to be backwards-compatible by degrading

My larger issue is that the UI gets tweaked constantly. To the point where the app you originally purchased and the one you're currently using may not longer resemble each other and there's nothing you can do about it when it

Sure, but it's not like the entire Internet is up at once. If rubygems.org goes off-line, it shouldn't mean you can't deploy your Rails app.

This release fixes a lot of long-standing problems with invokedynamic in the Java 7 series. It'll be fun to play with JRuby 1.7.5 on it when that's released later this week.

That certainly didn't help, but if your DB was large enough where vacuuming mattered, you probably found a cron solution. The other place I saw MySQL win was in single access benchmarks that were scattered across the Web. Postgres wo

I think a large part of that simplicity can be attributed to the lack of Windows port of PostgreSQL at the time that PHP was gaining traction. MySQL was the only reasonable option then. And then the community mindset was solidified.

I'm actually going fairly tired of sites trying to push everything into the client to free up their servers. I routinely run into sites that easily peg an entire core and/or use > 1 GB RAM. A gross generalization, but if you&

In my experience, Mailinator addresses have only been used as a way to abuse our service or try to keep getting new trial accounts. Of course we have mechanisms to protect against that, but it's still a large amount of cruft we have t

Does that have the broken EFI implementation? I only tried to boot linux on a MacBook Pro (17" unibody, 2011 I think) and while it worked, it was pretty annoying. Since the EFI implementation was non-standard, I had to boot with some

Let me know how that test drive on the Internet goes. I'm sure the 8 photos taken at the perfect angle will tell you everything. And shipping a single vehicle is probably going to be super cost-effective.

Your supposition is that I said we need laws for this. I claimed dealers add value. You're arguing the wrong point with me. That aside, your notion of competition implies all dealers have like models, which is incorrect. Sure, they

The people that live there probably do. There is an entire country outside of SF, NYC, and Cambridge and their suburbs. I could just be as glib and ask who really cares about Tesla and their battle with dealerships.

Well, they do produce value. Ford couldn't possibly service every municipality in the country and thus relies on dealers. So, the dealers take the risk and do the market research, but Ford is always able to undercut them on price. B

A JavaScript file failing to load will bork most pages. A CSS file failing to load or a key image will cause most people to quit. And an Ajax request failing in a single-page app will render it useless. But, my point of view is from actua
