Doesn't that usually involve giving up your passion? Not every skill is worth getting, don't get me wrong though - I am apprehensive at doing things just to please some people.

Unfortunately though, FP is being sold as panacea of concurrency problems, at least in Java world. I think that FP is much more than that, it actually helps me solve problems in a very different and elegant way. I don't know how you classif

Agree with your sentiments on enterprise douchbaggery, you are probably undervaluing what you have learned: You still have a chance to learn how to milk the enterprise when roles are reversed.

For a non-startup, I TDD where it makes sense, for example when I'm implementing from scratch and requirements are pretty vague. However, I try to cover existing code with automated tests where risk of change is very high (bad code).
