It’s a title, nothing more. It means nothing, because there is no legal certification process for any of this. There is no guild of software engineers that puts requirements on what a staff engineer would need to be certified. There is no l

There’s that bending over backwards I was talking about in a sibling thread. Trump supporters do everything they can to twist his very obvious words to mean something that isn’t as insane. Then they turn it around and say I’m the crazy on

My goal isn't to sway trump voters, they've already demonstrated time and time again, and again, and again, and again, that they have no intention of meeting liberals anywhere , let alone "in the middle", and that there

There was a primary, Biden won it. Maybe you wanted a second primary after he stepped down? That would have been tough.

So what is the takeaway here? When referring to trump supporters, follow the line of reasoning: - Trump floated bleach as a covid remedy - Bleach as a covid remedy is obviously stupid (we should both be agreeing on this one) - Trump support

I think that was the one model in the universe I was referring to. I don’t have the layout in my kitchen to put knobs in the front, my stovetop has to fit in a pretty well-defined area. Knobs in the front would have been totally ideal.

I’m in full agreement with everyone here who hates touch screens, and I also spent a long time looking for induction ranges with physical knobs (IIRC there was only one model in the universe with them), and was so mad that I had to get one

Random audits can generally solve this. Take a random count from a random machine and validate that it matches the hand count. If I’m trying to rig an election I would have to be very reckless to just cross my fingers and hope that the syst

Build systems often define constants by passing them as -D defines, which toggle code in different preprocessor #ifdef sections, so the analogy isn’t far off.

I guess different captive portals work differently, because I’ve heard of plenty of them that can be bypassed by simply statically assigning the address of someone else who’s already authenticated (ie session hijacking), but it makes sense

I wonder how captive portals are supposed to work with IPv6 temporary private addresses (RFC4941). I’ve never run a captive portal but I always assumed that the router just redirects all port 80 packets to the portal (and rejects everything

You can’t, basically. The copy key isn’t configurable for example, you’d need to rewrite the apps from source to achieve this. Some dynamically link to shared library UI toolkits that you could patch, others implement it themselves… it’d be

The point of the content hash is to make it trivial to verify that the content hasn’t changed from when its hash was made. If you just make a uuid that has nothing to do with the file’s contents, you could easily forget to update the UUID w
