This is possible (in reverse) with lists. I don't follow anyone on Twitter, but I have a dozen or so lists for friends, news, etc.

I think this ship sailed when Rust removed function purity. Rust is a Scala, not a Haskell.

Your link doesn't say it's wrong; it argues semantics. The fact that unicorn-killer is a real thing real developers use for real apps should be evidence enough that Rails is a joke. Whether your app crashes after 4 minutes or you

I'm quite sure that's still the case. MRI will never return memory to the OS. (I am open to being corrected, since it has been several major versions since I verified this.)

DHH is ridiculous. Ruby and Rails are nowhere near fast, in the past or present. Especially the past. http://harmful.cat-v.org/software/ruby/rails/is-a-ghetto > The main Rails application that DHH create

Not true. Ruby is not a systems language. I would say a systems language is characterized by static compilation, static typing and fast performance with low latency. Of course, someone will quickly suggest a counterexample like this comment

I don't think the term is well-defined. At first, it was about liaising between developers and operations. These days it seems to be about infrastructure-as-code like Chef.

Regarding your last sentence, why does having grep in /bin reduce the chance of mkdir working?

I think that's hardly the case. If Linux users were reading the source code, we wouldn't have such an embarrassing track record when it comes to security. Major security issues like Heartbleed existed in code for years.

This isn't a new idea. I enjoyed using a Clojure equivalent for a while[0], and this post inspired me to create a Haskell version[1]. [0]: https://github.com/rkneufeld/lein-try [1]: https://github.com&

Loops aren't any safer than recursion. A loop is a special case of recursion and is just as susceptible to the halting problem.

Maybe for a Hacker News n00b, but a garden variety n00b has not heard of Markdown, YAML, or, for that matter, GitHub. They're going to keep using WordPress, Tumblr and Squarespace.

The idea of using a runtime conditional to target different major versions of a programming language is hilarious. Really, given the Python 3 embarrassment, I'm not confident in the language as a long-term option.

LastPass has jumped the shark. Major vulnerabilities were disclosed in 2011 and now 2015. Their purchase by LogMeIn is not inspiring. I closed my account and started using KeePass (by way of KeePassDroid) stored in Google Drive. This wa
