Yep, the Hacker News default font size is tiny, period. And I find the 'pro-zoomer croud' pretty odd to be honest. It's more work, and it's tedious. You wouldn't pan around a book. Personally I use the Hacker Web (web-app) on iOS [1] and Ge

I find that pretty odd tbh. What size monitor? Do you sit leaning towards the screen or leant back in your chair? That blog font-size looks great to me. 1600 x 900, laptop, rocking a casual, semi-hunched position.

In Chrome type about:gpu in your URL bar, might give you some clues. (Then check out about:flags to see if there are any relevant options you can change).

It's a judgement call. Some people are wary that going nutty with conditionals in templates could result in littering bits of 'business logic' in them - they prefer to take an all-or-nothing stance and go for nothing. Personally I like the

A better recommendation would be 'don't ship JavaScript to oldIE'. IE 6-8 have terrible JavaScript engines, JavaScript is going to do very little to help you deliver a good experience to users stuck on those browsers. For websites, let thes

I don't think the snarky checklist is necessary and am pretty saddened you've got upvotes for merely stating the obvious in such a derisive way. We don't know the context in which the creator made this, and who is to say that just because s

Beautiful and the nav is impressively slick. Shame the desktop landing page (though pretty) doesn't show off just how nice the rest of the UI is when visited from iOS. (There are a few pics on the author's Dribbble for the curious [1]). Wou

I would guess the same as any other library. If it doesn't support AMD, shim it? http://requirejs.org/docs/api.html#config-shim I can go into specifics if you give an example of the dependency structure you're trying to define. But the b

Sure, but it's lazy either way. Cries of 'bloat' without some supporting reasoning = alarms bells suggesting willful ignorance to me. Personally gets my goat a lot at work. It's so easy to allude to bloat, or (for example) some framework co

I'd tend to just ignore anyone that uses the word 'bloat' without backing their statement up with any substance/insight or perhaps acknowledgement that they may be wrong on some counts and are unlikely to understand the entire problem-space

That's down to the browser's implementation of the :active state (an unstyled button element does exactly the same thing) and is not this guy's fault. I'd also wager 99.9% of users do not care in the slightest about that behaviour.

There are also various use-cases for doing this as part of a larger product. Say you need to take a customer's crappy PDFs & reformat them for display within a web app, on a public display or to send as an HTML email. You could use this

Interesting, I wasn't aware this was a pain-point. I may have some similar (Qt) work coming up soon and was wondering if you could elaborate with some examples, i.e. situations where you encounter the X11 APIs when working with Qt.

Sure, I think that's fair. The whole thing could definitely have been done a lot classier. And I don't doubt there are better online versions of these games already out there - I've since found a better (flash) version of lunar lander. The

Well the games are remakes of the classics, so if you don't have any fondness for the originals, you probably aren't going to like them. Personally I had some fun with lunar lander, though it seemed a lot easier than the BBC micro version I

I can only imagine they're slow because you don't have hardware acceleration working in your Chrome (type about:gpu into your address-bar to see what the deal is). All demos run smooth for me, as do all the games in the atari arcade: http:
