Why not just prototype inheritance with multiple inheritance? Like Self. The class-instance duality is removed then, and everything is just an editable object. This always made the most sense to me. Then just having the 'universe'

Honestly all this 'company' stuff is still like trying to fit in too hard. I think the best situation is one where I have enough 'money' that I can just not have to fit in for 3-4 years, and do coding as I would philosop

This makes sense. But I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. I think goal-motivation is different from goal-attachment. Being attached to "I will do my best to make x happen" rather than x itself focuses on actions and

This may not be the answer you're looking for, but I think you might get the highest ratio of information-to-time by just trying it out. Second-hand opinions are hard. Practical Common Lisp is the best intro, and two chapters (maybe 40

The thing is, it actually doesn't matter. No one needs to be a certain way. Cool things will be done by people that can and will do those cool things. In the end the prescriptivity of this whole space is only ascribed by people interna

Functional and OOP the way you seem to be thinking about them aren't necessarily at odds. If you don't immutably update objects and instead do 'return-the-updated-object' then it could fit in with functional. They seem t

It depends also very much on the individual psychology and experience of the human in question that is using the tool to develop, and the kind of thing that is being developed. For example, to lay out the gui in a gui tool, you'd rathe

Yeah games are a fun example to work with for such tools. Almost as if game development tools are an 'instance' of the prototype of 'development tools,' and rather than simply working on the abstract class it's nice

Ultimately, this is what art is. You need to go with what you love. 'logical argument' often just is a euphemism for rationalizing your convictions after the fact. You can't paint if you try to analyze every brush stroke. Let

This stigma against anecdotes itself reeks of what you seem to fear in religion. Such things are very personal, there are no hard and fast rules derivable from first principles. How we like to paint everything as simple and provable! You mu

The nice thing about reading is that it's not very risky. You can pick up a book, jump around it, if it's interesting then continue else not. You don't have to plan ahead, just... Do. When I look back, I find that most of the
