I believe you had to opt in and it has some legal language before it. All the data pages were stripped and SQL Servers stores all data in the buffer pool. But of course you could find some stuff on the stack and other caches.

Microsoft is really good at this BTW. At SQL Server we had mini dumps they were tiny stripped out of personal info and incredibly useful. And a full dump of a production SQL Server even at that time (15 years ago) would be a huge file - too

(Neon CEO) I'm sorry you had this experience. We had several instabilities in Q4 as the system became popular. That was the one of the reasons we called it "preview" until we got stability to where it needs to be. We are also

Postgres \ commands are incredible shortcuts that are a pain to write in sql. E.g. \dt+ translates to SELECT schemaname, tablename, tableowner, tablespace, pg_size_pretty(pg_total_relation_size(quote_ident(schemaname) ||

When Neon goes down twitter lights up, we haven't had it for a long time now. Internally we are measuring the number of projects under 5 min in the last 30 days and it's been lower double digits over 700K+ total databases under ma

Merging is a tricky one for operational databases. We think merging schemas is a useful feature. Merging data is likely not. The feature is coming!

We are currently lumping storage retention history (we store all the history for a period of time so you can time travel) and backups together. We are rethinking this, please stay tuned

(Neon ceo) They never exceed the limit you set in the number of cpus. In practice the cost a lot less than max number of cpus * time. Think about area under the curve of cpu(t).

There are some limits. Architecture wise storage indefinitely and compute up to the largest bare metal node on Amazon plus as many read replicas as you want.

One thing that is very important is what you charge for. Software or service. We are only charging for the cloud service and it has major implications in the “company architecture”. When you charge for software like yuga and roach and for t

The problem that shared nothing systems lose compatibility with the single node system. So planetscale and yugabyte are not 100% compatible with Postgres. They are also very expensive at the low end hence the free tiers are discontinued. I

This is a very deliberate effort which is venture funded. It started with a deck three years ago and a team of myself, Heikki and Stas. Since it’s my second company (prev was singlestore) the early funding was relatively easy. Later funding

(neon ceo) Yes you will have an S3 fetch latency for downloading a layer file for such data. However we don't page out aggressively so it's a very unlikely event. Most of the time you will be fetching from a locally attached SSD w

What volumes are we talking about. There are ways to speed things up dramatically. Index build just became multithreaded (see above). We have ideas on what to do with ingest. Also do you interest from S3 ?

(Neon CEO) It’s about to get a lot better too. Pgvector now supports multi-threaded build https://github.com/pgvector/pgvector/issues/409#issuecomment...
