How can you dogfood a product if the product itself isn’t ready for production use yet but its idea changes the fundamentals of how you work and hence develop. It would be similar to criticizing the first ever bridge builders that they don’

Can’t you quantify the risks and add them to the inputs of those models then? Same with code quality you mentioned, you’re effectively saying that the ‘feel’ or intuition about the code quality and on when to act to do something about that

IMO for these rare occasions it should be okay to unmerge PRs. Or what could also be done is you only deploy cherry-picked releases, granted that you have a way of tracking commits in the upstream such that no commit ever gets lost.

This is great! You’re going to get a lot of ‘I want weekly’, ‘I want categories’, ‘I want settings for this and that’ here, obviously up to you to decide if it’s a good fit but I’d assume that a simple feed without much settings is good eno

Do I understand this correctly that jaywalking is legalized, and not decriminalized? Sounds like it wasn’t a criminal offense to begin with.

I wish that we stopped saying things like ‘eating this and that is beneficial’ or ‘good for your health’. You know, consuming calories is immensely beneficial and good for your body if you haven’t had a meal for a day. Doesn’t really matter

Given the hard coded amounts used in the CSS presented in this article (eg 11, 13), they must be using some layout framework that translates their language into proper grid positions so that must be why the grid is used in such a way.

While others are replying with ‘this or that already does this’, I totally feel you. All the log viewers I’ve worked with (latest ones being DataSet and Kibana) have some holes in their UX. When that compounds with badly configured log pipe

As other person said it’s a survivor bias as well. From 100 years ago most of the houses that you see are either stone/brick houses, or timber-framed houses (thick post and beam, not what people in the UK call timber framing today). Th

In my experience I like living with stone walls a lot more than in a cardboard. It’s true though that doing any changes to the stone wall is a lot harder than with drywall, but it kind of proves the point that current construction technique

I think this war shows how useful they are in urban combat, not a place where ballistic missile speeds and range are relevant. Small warhead would be a feature in close combat.

It’s probably just that a gradient between black and white in linear RGB results in a gradient with a midpoint that doesn’t look like _the middle between black and white_ to the human eye. I far as I understand that’s what sRGB fixes, perha

It doesn’t. Given that it periodically dumps the WAL to an S3 bucket for actual storage this sounds like async replication. Async replication is prone to lose last bits (last by time) of data when the node goes down. They’re probably more o

I think it’s because it’s a network level session which isn’t very useful for the app level. Those connections are still ephemeral enough that you wouldn’t be able to treat their IDs as application’s session ID, you’d simply get randomly in

It’s just not enough when it’s a multi-service backend that you want to run on your local machine, plus IDE, a browser, and a few well known electron/react native apps that play music and let you chat with your colleagues.

Last time I checked, that was around PHP 7.0, it was using chaining for its hash table implementation. One notable thing was that its hash table was also using a more optimal array impl (no hashing) if you were only using numerical consecut
