The default list is created at the marketing department, not the usability lab. Actually it does follow the faux usability trend where ”options confuse user”, and the perfect UI is just an uniform off-white screen with no controls

The amount of light exposure you get is incredible, with the crisp air and the all-white world reflecting the sunshine. So good against seasonal depression

I plug my laptop to the same 2 screens every morning. Every couple of days, the laptop is just unable to deal 4k resolution to the main screen. Rebooting sometimes helps, actually shutting down and then starting up again fixes it every time

They must have had at least some discussion on price per unit. Maybe not about the total, but how was this not caught when they sent the first invoice? At six bags per case, either they sent 1/6 of the ordered amount of coffee, or they

In an Apple laptop, the real killer is being able to work for more than 5 minutes without thermal throttling. The i9 in a Macbook pro is plenty fast for 2 minutes, then slows to a crawl because the laptop was designed to be slim, not fast

Not all of it, just enough of it to move the bottleneck somewhere else. A factory is always bottlenecked by something, sales if nothing else

Did the economy benefit over $10B from allowing voip calls to spoof numbers? I feel like dropping that ability would be a net win - would be much harder to spoof the elderly with a scam coming from a clearly foreign number

Heat has a well-defined kills-you-automatically limit of ~35 celsius wet bulb temperature. There isn’t a similar limit for cold.

I love how the HN front page is the only way to reach a human at Google. No amount of money can get you a support ticket opened with an actual person in a situation like this

I grabbed my (sleeping, lid closed) macbook from my desk this morning. When I pulled the charger to put it into my bag, I started hearing the faint audio of the youtube video I was playing when I closed the lid last night. Macs today sleep

Coders have been using "AI" for ages. You used to write assembly by hand, then got a compiler that you could just instruct to generate the code for you. I don't worry about my job, even though a single prompt to REPL can now
