But the patents are often not on the technical implementation nitty-gritty, but on the very general idea of "Two speakers that play the same song in sync". The latter ("concept patents") just stifle innovation.

$20k/mo in salary is huge, $20k/mo in revenue is a very small business. This thread seems to happily mix the two

Your coworkers would prefer you splitting the thing into two microservices communicating over a REST api, aka the 200x slower version.

You are unable to force them to pay $100 million but have cleverly written contract clauses that cause them to owe you $125 million now. Which they're also not paying.

Meanwhile this is such an everyday thing in film/tv. Product placements are 1) everywhere 2) really blatant.

I just wish we told/heared more stories about antivirus being useful. As it stands, anti-malware sounds like the worst malware on the planet.

Antennagate was 100% bogus, they changed nothing in the phone's design and the complaints died down. The same thing with the bendgate, that one had people going to Apple stores to bend display iPhones

Grifters moved on to AI, leaving only the actually viable parts of crypto around. So yeah cryptos are 100% dead.

Are you familiar with Hacktoberfest? Every October you get an absolute torrent of crappy PRs from people who saw a youtube video on "How to get a free T-shirt". See https://blog.domenic.me/hacktoberfest/

At least a few times every week I have to pop open a cygwin window to run "find / -iname xxxxxxxxx" Finding a local file with an already known name is nigh-impossible with the current Windows search.

My hot take: Code quality is not measured by formatting issues, but by error resilience and number of actual bugs. Much of modern linting and commit hooking is dedicated to checking whitespace placement, variable naming and function lengths

Malformed xml sneaks through the kitchen window and poisons you in your sleep. Someone puts naively escaped umlauts (ä -> ä ) into the surname field and your entire xml parser borks with unknown entity errors

But only network engineers pick the protocols used. You’re making life harder for the very people who should be your primary audience. PS: As a developer, I often read logs and go ”oh yeah, that’s just our satellite office IP”. 192.168.1.11
