Yeah Microsoft Rewards is super annoying, and I'm not sure who even actually engages with it. But if you want to use windows you can remove MS rewards from your account and the notifications stop [1]. [1] https://support.m

I had never heard of anyscale before but I'm curious why you think the entire industry will consolidate around LLMs. Maybe you mean transformers? Either way there are a lot of problems that LLMs just aren't suited for.

"Big bad energy companies" is tiring. We demand the energy. Sure they should be held liable for lying. But it would be hard to convince me that if they did tell the truth things would of played out any different. Energy is the

That's going to be very rough on small business. I think it all sounds fantastic don't get me wrong, but most mom and pop shops can't float employees for 12 months while paying in full for their child care and other services

We aren't talking about a homebrew data warehouse though, we are talking about open source software. Designing the schema and/or data flows on top of the warehouse is needed regardless of whether you use open source or Snowflake.

I think you are vastly under-estimating the amount of cost/manpower needed for snowflake and cloud based solutions (they are anything but turn-key and have a lot of churn). There are cases for both but it's not as simple as open s

When you call something "My Computer" it immediately springs to mind "which one"? Whereas "This PC" is more straightforward. It's subtle, and wouldn't make a difference to you or I. But to your aver

Speed of payment wasn't really the issue though? I mean after all credit cards take multiple days to post. They tackle a lot more than just speed.

Or just an acknowledgement that in today's world a user has many computers and devices, not just one. I hate baseless speculation.

Any other time and HN would be cheering that user data was attempted to be kept private and not disclosed. But one whiff of it being on the wrong side of a political divide and it becomes a witch hunt.

Maybe, except from my understanding an embedding vector tends to be much larger than the source token (due to the high dimensionality of the embedding space). So it's almost like a reverse compression in a way. That said I know vecto

It sounds nice in theory, but the data itself could be problematic. There is no temporal nature to it. You can have duplicate data points, many data points that are closely related but describe the same thing/event/etc.. So whi

As kids we biked everywhere living in a small town of about 7k. Everything we needed was only a few miles away. It was a nice place to grow up and quite the opposite of your 5 mega metros.

Maybe at Google everything is an endless sea of complexity. It sure isn't for me, I generally can have a dev environment up & going in a few minutes locally.

Maybe, if you only focus on the endgame. It can be fun just for the journey. Nothing is forever, even if it is built on open platforms.

Redis will bit rot. LuaJIT will bit rot. Jonathan Blow did make some fantastic games, but even then it's in a sea of games that are pretty great. Everyone is pretty small in the long run.

I feel it's the opposite. The incentive is to lock you in and provide as little value as possible for as much money as possible. Get you hooked, take your data hostage, and then jack up the price as much as possible while delivering

The key is to not live in a tech hub or hcol area. You can make a great salary in the 200-300k range in lower cost of living areas and basically live like royalty.
