Twitter's official policy is that an account becomes inactive after 6 months - at that point, they reserve the right to release the account (in practice they rarely do this, though - there isn't an automated job releasing inactive

Canvas is amazing. I cannot say enough good things about it (and no, I don't work for them). Love their SpeedGrader feature (allows you to quickly flip through your students assignments).

I'm a woman, and I think it's hilarious and not at all sexist. Had to stop myself from laughing out loud because I'm in a library. Is the association that some people will make with "brogrammer" culture a bit unfor

You should get 10 free articles a month before the paywall appears. I'm guessing most HN readers haven't used up their quota yet.

Would you have heard of her book if she didn't have a kickstarter? That's why she needs a kickstarter. It's a marketing tool, possibly moreso than it's a crowdfunding tool.

Reminds me of a situation I once encountered in the Mumbai airport. I open up my computer and see there's free wifi - I try to log on, it wants me to verify my identity by sending me a text message... of course, I don't have an In

Not sure why you were downvoted - this is a brilliant way for him to get his name out there. Before this, we never would've heard of him, and now he's at the top of HN.

Minor nitpick, but calling them "transgenders" is kind of like referring to straight people as "straights" - it just doesn't really make sense. I think the appropriate term would be "trans people."

I didn't read it as him saying the two were mutually exclusive... I thought the distinction was between 'just a [CS major]' as opposed to 'hacker' (who may or may not have a CS degree) - perhaps I just interpreted i

Misleading title - this doesn't prevent tampering, it just makes it obvious to you, as the laptop owner, that your machine has been tampered with. Still useful, but then what are you supposed to do about it?

I see several comments on this thread re: 'where are they going to get the teachers?' Not sure what Chicago is planning to do, but I'd love to see them follow the TEALS k-12 model ( http://www.tealsk12.org/ ) -

I'm curious how this internally transparent policy works when hiring new people? Do they tell you what everyone else is making before you negotiate, or only after you've been hired? Either way, that feels potentially awkward.

I interned at Google's Mountain View HQ in 2009 - I don't remember there being an actual nap room, they just had a few nap pods (like this http://www.hammacher.com/Product/12199 ) scattered around the office.
