I don't think that's it because I have seen some reports of this behavior online with the official charger.

I have this laptop and this is so frustrating. I am hoping that they can fix this with a firmware update.

In case you are not aware, most of the titles discussed in the article are available for free as high quality ebooks at https://standardebooks.org because they are in the public domain. I have read way too many detective novels

I have this laptop with this display configuration and it looks amazing. However on Arch with Gnome/Wayland I cannot get color management to work, which is a problem since this display has such a wide gamut. Opening HN on it for the fi

I would recommend not wasting time with ollama, https://github.com/containers/ramalama just works on that chip.

It is HP, and the output of the provided adapter does 28V 5A, so in spec. With some of the other 28V 5A adapters I have, it charges until triggering a compute heavy task and then stops. I have seen reports online of people seeing this behav

I also have a Strix Halo zbook G1A and I am quite disappointed in the idle power consumption as it hovers around 8W. Adding to that, it is very picky about which power brick it accepts (not every 140W PD compliant works) and the one that co

I had the same issue with other models where they would loop repeating the same character, sentence or paragraph indefinitely. Turns out the context size some tools set by default is 2k and this is way too small.

I gave it a try on my Strix Halo laptop on Arch. ROCm and everything else worked out of the box with two commands: uv tool install ramalama ramalama serve <model>

This. I maintain an ecommerce platform written in Python. Even with Python being slow, less than 30% of our request time is spent executing code, the rest is talking to stuff over the network.

I ended up building this entirely by accident. Last summer I wanted to have aquatic plants in my garden, so I made a small container pond. As you can imagine it quickly got invaded by mosquito larvae. By the time I realized I was getting ra

> I wouldn't go near the PC version of Elden Ring What's wrong with the PC version of Elden Ring? Of course it needs to be played with a controller but that's hardly a problem.

I vividly remember the day when at age 10 my grandfather let me disassemble a broken VCR. It is the day I learned to treat electronics with large capacitors with respect.

The price of solar panels and batteries keeps falling. You can go an Amazon today and get a setup that can power a switch/router/AP 24/7 in winter for a few hundred dollars.

A good rule of thumbs with most battery chemistries is that they tend to not like both extremes. This is true for temperature, charge capacity, slightly less true for charging current as very low current tend not to degrade the battery.

It is always surprising to me but small loads that are on 24/7 end up consuming a ton of energy. My 55W idle "homelab" consumes as much energy as my dishwasher, fridge and washing machine combined .

Gauges I agree. Infotainment, who cares? It's not like CarPlay today is perfect. It routinely crashes on me mid-drive and requires a series of reboots to go back to working conditions.

Do you know what would be better than CarPlay? An open protocol. It's my phone and my car, why do I need both companies' blessings for connecting them?

I never managed to get anything out of Junie. Each of my queries end up with an internal process stuck on a loop eating 100% CPU until I kill it. Back to Windsurf for now which is disappointing because I much prefer PyCharm for everything e

You may already know this but getting 12V out of a 15V PD is relatively straightforward with either a linear regulator (less ripple but less efficient) or a buck converter (more ripple but more efficient). The Internet is full of very inexp

This does not make sense as PD needs to negotiate with the device to get anything more than 5V. Putting random cables in your mouth won't result in getting 12V or even the 48V that PD can output.

Fun fact, DeWalt 18/20V batteries also don't have balancing. The batteries have pins going to each cell for it but no chargers actually use them.

Yes, the price tag is high but on the other hand they are super reliable. I have one on my water boiler that triggered its relay many times per day for five years and measured dozens of MWh.

Most consumer LiFePO4 power stations have this sensor and cut charging below 0C, still allowing discharge up to around -10C.
