Thanks Alex for posting the first quote from a sportsperson I've every actually found inspirational. OP, hang in there and find someone you can talk about your feelings to, even if you have to keep your "confident face" on all day. Failin

Good point(s). I was more addressing the techical "How can I tell if my computer is haunted?" question than the original poster's legal issues, on which I am not at all qualified to speculate.

OK, the proper way to do this is to not touch the machine at all. Shut it down and leave it alone. Maybe borrow its hard drive and back it up using 'dd'. Set up a separate Linux (etc) machine with two ethernet ports as a firewall/router

Even though I'm actually overall pretty positive on the value of higher education, the argument lost me at: > "The question is, “Can you be successful in truly meaningful ways without going to college?” The answer for most of you is “No

As much as I kind of hate to admit it ... The cost to a hobbyist of an 8-pin 555 timer[1] is not significantly different to the cost of an 8-pin TinyAVR[2] -- and the TinyAVR gives you a lot more options -- so that's the way kids these days

Yes, the move to UEFI worries me a whole lot more than the CPU being soldered to the board. I haven't upgraded a CPU in a very long time.

I do this all the time to laptops ... boot Windows once to go through the whole "create backup DVDs" procedure, then put the DVDs away somewhere safe and wipe the machine. If you ever have to claim warranty, back up your Linux files, secur

Yeah, I like to minify the HTML as well ... most template engines have an "omit whitespace" option or flag which lets you do this. Every now and then whitespace turns out to be significant though ... so you need to be slightly intelligent a

Do any of these languages solve the debugging problem? I'd love to write my client-side code in something other than JS, but I'd still be debugging it in JS, and I have trouble believing that's going to help ...

The "proper" Hayes AT drop-back-to-command-mode sequence was +++ followed by a long pause (1 second or so). Any characters sent during that pause time would invalidate the attempt to switch to command mode. So theoretically this shouldn't

Success contains a large factor of luck for sure, but I'd say also a large factor of something not measured by IQ tests. Charisma? "Emotional Intelligence"? Mental flexibility? Gumption? Who knows.

The count({condition}) one is a worry. I'm guessing it is slow in the case where it has to page the index in in order to count it. I wonder if it is still a problem where the index is used a lot anyway. A fix in MongoDB would seem a lot

I'd like an App Store with a "if you delete it within X days you get an automatic refund" model. That would make buying apps risk free and refunding them hassle free, without the annoyance of having "Lite" vs "Full" versions.
