I'm embarrassed to admit that I never realized that "Cisco" was, in addition to the company's name, short/slang for San Francisco, nor that their logo was meant to evoke the Golden Gate Bridge.

Funnily enough, for a while I haven't been able to use Hangouts screen share in Chrome ( https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=649487 ) but works in Firefox. A couple of years back I was ha

We live near the border, and I've never seen anyone questioned (myself included) when bringing dairy across; it's one of the primary purchases of people visiting the US side.

I wonder if they do this to limit the potential of rolling breaking changes out to their enterprise Google Apps accounts and the like? The servers running the Google Apps accounts and applications probably have a different update policy. It

You're correct in that software (including games) is almost always licensed, but I think you're also being a little pedantic. There were certainly fewer games that required "phoning home" for verification and fewer games

Anecdotal, but suspend has always been a huge frustration for me (T510). Between trying different video drivers and kernels and having them bork the machine I decided to see if any modern release of a distro would just work out of the box (

You're right, I did have that on my mind when I was posting and was hoping not to catch too much flak! Someone down the thread mentioned keeping things running, debugging, etc. which is part of what kept me from doing it on my own as I

Agreed with the harm to locally-made innovation. In my city (Fredericton, NB) the tech industry has hade (seemingly) more and more bigger companies (Raytheon, Siemens, Salesforce, IBM) setting up shop and bringing better wages. It's a

I'm no lawyer but I'm not sure that allowing others the ability to view and fork your repositories is the equivalent of granting them a real license to the code. I don't think the definition of fork implies much in the way of

Chrome's auto-update is barely noticeable and quite polite, in that it doesn't nag you to restart (or forcibly shut down your current work). Doesn't stop you from shutting it down and barely slows down the next time it starts

I thought this was a buffered-writes issue, where (perhaps based on the filesystem?) the OS may have buffered some of the disk operations in memory and by asking it to unmount you can ensure that everything gets flushed to the drive. Not su
