Great article! I now finally understand what io_uring is about. IO with no syscalls - that is clever. I've been confused by the name for ages. I now can parse it as IO Userpace RING, rather than some sort of typo!

With Chrome I don't think there will be a problem. With Firefox it needs to report use-application-dns.net as not available (see NXDOMAIN below) $ dig use-application-dns.net. ; <<>> DiG 9.16.1-Ubuntu <<>

I guess this begs the question of why this is so widespread? Is it common for users to have the language preferences of their browsers misconfigured? If so then I can see why this is common practice. If not then we should stop using the use

I think this is a worthy effort :-) I find the compile times of rust to be quite a big negative point. However: > For every tested commit, the programs are compiled in three different configurations: O3, ReleaseThinLTO and ReleaseLTO-g.

I tried this in gpython ( https://github.com/go-python/gpython ) and it works. That isn't surprising I suppose however what is surprising is that I wrote gpython and I had no idea why it worked until I read the ex

Anyone want to guess how long it takes for an issue to be made for rclone to support it ;-) Seriously though I couldn't see a public API - can anyone see it? (Rclone author)

Ha! I had the same experience in my art evening classes. One evening our teacher told us that we had to produce three paintings in the 2.5 hour lesson. It is challenging enough producing one in that time period. It was a fantastic learning

If you want to keep the costs down with S3 you use --checksum or --size-only to avoid reading the metadata with HEAD requests. You can also use --fast-list to use less transactions at the cost of memory (basically just GETs to read 1000 obj

You can use rclone sync with `--backup-dir` which is a flag stolen straight from rsync so you can keep old versions of your data. You do something like this rclone sync /path/to/source remote:destination/current --

Here is a little program I wrote to stress test disks. It was originally written for HDD but it works well on SSD and Flash too. I test all my media with it for 24 hours. In fact I'm testing two 5TB external Seagate drives as I type!

You are welcome! It has been a voyage implementing so many cloud providers and keeping them working. You might be surprised how much code is tests which get run against the cloud providers every night in the integration tests!

I know the S3 API quite well through hacking on rclone and I have to say it is pretty good as object storage APIs go. If I could add one thing to it, it would be a way of listing a bucket to get the objects and the metadata back at once
