Try Unhook (desktop) and Untrap (iOS). At this point, my YouTube experience is just the channels I subscribe to, and the video player. It reduced my usage to almost zero. I'm not exactly curing cancer, but my media consumption is more

I moved back to paper notes, watercolours and paperbacks novels. On paper (ha) it is much worse than a cloud-connected device with an undo function, but the experience is just better for me. I love how you can act with those media in ways t

AI is sucking up that content and denying traffic to its creators. This model is becoming obsolete.

Every website that was driven by traffic is also dying. I have put nearly a decade of work into mine, and AI overviews and ChatGPT have reduced traffic by over 60%. At some point I will need to give up and find a job, and that corner of the

You get a long-lasting device that's usually pleasant to use. User experience is harder to measure than specs, but at least for me, Macbooks are consistently better laptops than everything else I've used.

I think that someone getting hung up on something so irrelevant would probably not be a good culture fit.

I used a simple “tell me what you had for breakfast” line to filter out people who don’t read. It required no work from the applicant but filtered out some of the spam. I wonder if an AI-resistant version could be made.

Monthly is fine, but not monthly all at once , because I watch multiple pages on one website, and that triggers the rate limiting. The ideal pipeline for me would be "notice a change in a specific part of a page, use a very small LLM

The way I see it, "from each according to their ability" is the right approach here. If you can afford 30% less flying, red meat etc, then it's your duty to do it. You don't need to make your cat go vegan; just... do wha

It's an "all hands on deck" situation, yet everyone seems to think that someone else has to do something. You don't need to be a martyr, just to make an effort. At the very least don't brag about not giving a crap.

The thing is that everyone alive today and in the future is footing the bill for that indifference. It's nice that you don't care, but it's not something I'd brag about.

Yes? As I wrote, the mere act of writing down your feelings forces you to acknowledge them and see patterns in them. Sometimes while writing something down I realise "wait, I've been through this before" or "every time t

The message here was "journaling is a useful form of introspection". > Please respond to the strongest plausible interpretation of what someone says, not a weaker one that's easier to criticize. Assume good faith.

It's not a guilty displeasure. I get annoyed by smart stuff. It's grating to deal with a smart TV demanding more attention than a display deserves. Over time we just stopped trusting that technology will better our lives.
