Fewer people migrate to Germany, and those who already migrated struggle to find jobs. My website helps people settle in Germany. Many of my colleagues are relocation consultants. They feel the difference. I spoke with someone at the city&

I maintain a website about German bureaucracy. The bigger the website grows, the harder it is to keep track of certain facts. I'm building a pipeline that monitors various sources for changing information, and creates a pull request or

I moved from Canada to Germany to avoid that work culture. Everytime I visit home, I feel like everyone is working all the time. When I work with North American colleagues, I have to explicitly tell them that I don't expect a reaction

The article does not answer its own question, or say anything, really. In a sufficiently competitive environment, players abandon a value for a temporary advantage. When other players follow suit, that value is gone, but the playing field i

I moved to paper after years of reading digitally. I find it easier to stay engaged because a book has only one purpose while my iPad Mini also has Instapaper and the internet. It’s also much easier to pick up and keep reading, and the book

It's a useful mind trick, but for watercolour, good paper makes all the difference. It's still affordable, so I just bought a second pad for tests and practice. It costs the same, but it's not part of my notebook so I feel be

I'm making more and more art. I'm meeting friends, and we sit together and doodle and paint. I've made so much progress in a few months simply by practicing more, experimenting more, and allowing myself to waste paper and mak

It’s a mixed blessing. I am Canadian, and I prefer my quiet life and small flat to always being at work or mowing the lawn. I am always stunned to see how much people back home work. My friends in Germany have much more balanced lives. If i

You can microdose idleness. Be productive in general, but make time for doing nothing without guilt. I made it a habit to spend my first waking hour idle, and it feels great.

I start my day with deliberate idleness. Just coffee and music in my living room, or tea on the balcony. Productivity needs purpose and direction, and you find those through pausing and looking around you. This reminds me of our painting te

This is a textbook definition of terrorism. That the military uses the civilian infrastructure is a justification that not even the US tried to use. This is pure terror bombing, and they admitted as much.

My point is that you can't bomb a country into submission. You can use strategic air power in addition to other methods, but the bombing alone was proven again and again to fail. More often than not, it hardens the enemy's resolve
