Good question was asked by debian devs: what's the future for xz now? I feel it is not really worth it to vet 2 years' worth of changes by a malicious actor, who had been actively trying to make any exploits add by them as hard to

This in of itself can be legitimate. ifunc has real uses and it indeed does not work when sanitizer is enabled. Similar change in llvm: https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/commit/1ef3de6b09f6b21a...

Difftastic is great, but when I need to create patches I need to go back to good ol' diff... Is there a patching tool that can apply difftastic diffs?

I think they didn't do a very good job explaining it. Await doesn't just mean "please run this thunk", it means "I am not going to deal with this thunk, can someone come and take over, just give me the result in the

Well first of all, Rust doesn't even have a spec. And I would also advocate for not blaming anyone, let's just fix this bug ;)

Can you quote the relevant part? Because IIUC lifetime checks have nothing to do with the trait solver. There's a new borrow checker however, but that's not going to fix this either

Why is this distinction important? It's still something you fix by changing what programs the compiler accepts or rejects. Or were you trying to imply this is unfixable?

I feel they only explained the "what" but not the "why". i.e., you do this and this and suddenly your code is 250x faster. But I want to know _why_ this is faster, or _why_ the old version is slow, which is not explained

I am surprised that everybody seem to have forgotten the (in)famous Embrace, Extend and Extinguish strategy. It's time for Open Source to be on the extinguishing side for once.

I am just really tired of seeing articles like this. Sure, you find some rules that are helpful in some specific cases, but those rules almost never generalize (yeah the irony of me making a generalizing statement here is not lost on me, bu

I am curious how you would have phrased it? Is there a way to accurately convey the root cause of the problem (the redis-py library) without sounding like trying to shift blame?
