Actually, I think Codecademy used badges after Rails for Zombies did...so everyone must be copying Greg and crew right? Who cares...no one really cares about badges anyway...except of course, VC's, who are already out of touch.

Like the new layout so far, though I loved the old one just fine too (customer here), but my big question is: where's the affiliate program? Did you can it? We were just starting to pick up steam on our campaigns.

Wish the article was substantive, but it's mostly conjecture without a real conclusion. I guess we'll find out in the next year or so.

Same reason people get frustrated for not getting into the college they wanted to attend. Sometimes, it's nice to win.

We are just getting started, and not in it for the fame, but doesn't make it hurt any less. Hard busting your ass 9-5 and coming home to do more while your kids wonder why you can't play outside. Damn this biz is rough

I saw the talk, and felt his point was hypocritical. He said that FB couldn't have made it outside of the valley, but that knowing what he knows now, it probably could were he starting it today. In other words, he needed the valley when he

I'm guessing the reason you are being downvoted is because "the girl" is Jessica Livingston, a partner at YC, who has earned a lot of respect here on HN. I agree that Zuck seemed unprepared and rambled, frequently forgetting what he was tal

I was an Ashton hater before today, for reasons probably related to jealousy, but today he won me over. I was really impressed by his groundedness and humility...at least while he spoke on stage.

For 9 bucks/month, I'm saving more than enough money to justify the service. When I want to find new music, I use Turntable.fm or Pandora.

Could you try not loading a hover box on first page load? It looks like you're doing something neat, but I hate having to have 'no' as my first response. Good work though.

Actually, you're right. I wish I could just pay for Sunday Ticket and nothing else. The same goes with some of the soccer channels I don't get but wish I did.

I rarely watch, it's mostly my wife trying to zone out after a long day of changing diapers, but I like having options. I just wish cable companies 'got it.'

It's amazing. I started a new job and their paycheck provider screwed up, so I wound up with paper checks. I couldn't afford the delay in mailing them to USAA, so I tried the app deposit method. Take a pic of front, take one of back (after

I'd love to see a new Jobs movie, but damn they'd have to be very selective with casting. Having read the Facebook Effect and then watched the adaptation, I can see that Sorkin has a knack for twisting the story to create drama, and I'm not

I pay for DirectTV, Verizion FIOS, Netflix, and have an Apple TV, yet I still can't get content delivered how I want it. The only thing the big networks get right is sports. If I forget to record something, I have to go to Hulu, where I can

I did the same, but have not swabbed. My primary concern is that of privacy. I don't really trust that a record of my DNA/swab test won't end up somewhere it's not supposed to be.

So you'll take a liar, as long as he votes for what you consider 'right'...right? This is how we got here in the first place.

Ron Paul is the only candidate in the election with a voting history to back his beliefs. He may say some crazy things, but at least he's honest, and on the up and up.

No doubt. In fact, this is exactly what happened to me today. I'm supposed to have great ideas, but when trying to implement them, told that I need to focus on paying the bills. I don't know how people manage this long-term.

I'm in this position now. I'm not a great developer, and I love learning new tricks, but because I'm billed hourly, am constantly interrupted, and get brought in to useless meetings, I'm left with zero time to learn.

I'm sure he's flying high right now, but I think he's foolish to turn down an offer like that in the same way Groupon was foolish to turn down Google's 11 digit offer. Sure, one could argue that money is less important than achieving a visi

This is exactly why we launched IgnitionDeck. We were thinking of raising money via traditional methods, but crowd funding, when it works, is so much more appealing. Of course, it's not as easy as it sounds, as consumers are just as picky,

I don't mind the length, in fact I prefer it, but you're right that Dan needs to jump in more often. My favorite podcasts on 5by5 are those in which Dan has a strong part in the discussion.
