Yes, except for the fact that ECMAScript has a syntax for comments, but not JSON. Standards matter.

I didn't know this bit of history. You're right, context explains a lot of the design choices made at YAML birth. Thanks for sharing.

Really great post. Code generation is seen by many as old school, but this post shows it's still well alive. We are seeing a revival of code generation with tools like jooq, Protocol Buffers, static website generator, and some Go tools

Considering your background, I can see why you appreciate Redis :-) Thanks for the chat!

The more often we deploy with CI/CD, the more we need zero downtime deploy. Putting the DB in read-only mode is not that simple, because the app needs to be able to work in a degraded read-only mode.

And what about zero downtime deploy (upgrading the app binary and updating the database schema)? It's difficult to do without some kind of reverse proxy and without a database server.

I'm a big fan of PostgreSQL, but don't you think MongoDB can be useful when you outgrow a single machine (vertical scaling is not possible anymore) and you need a sharded cluster (and you don't need joins and transactions...)

Honestly, Russ Cox published his first post about vgo on February 20 ( https://research.swtch.com/vgo ). It's been almost 3 months then. It's not fair to ask the community to wait any longer. If Sam Boyer has good r

Work is ongoing to solve this: https://github.com/golang/vgo/ . GOPATH won't be necessary anymore.

I know how to workaround the paywall by blocking or deleting the cookie :-) But I wasn't aware of this entry in HN's FAQ. I disagree, but if this is the rule on HN, then I'll follow it. Thanks for your reply.

Are we supposed to share articles behind paywalls on HN? Edit: I wasn't aware of the entry in HN's FAQ related to paywalls. See comments below.
