I'm using both Obsidian and Apple Notes, both on my iPhone and MacBook, and that's also the main thing I'm missing in Obsidian and keeps me partly on Apple Notes: it's faster and easier to create a note in Apple Notes, r

Yes, systemd does that. But as you wrote, it will queue network calls. The nice thing with the method I suggest above is that both Go processes, the old one and the new one, can be both serving requests in parallel, as they can share the sa

Another, more hacky option, would be to teach the binary executable how to download a new version, and start it to replace itself, while staying in the same container. Nginx does this for example. Of course, that’s some additional complexit

Would be interesting to see the request-response round trip time between the Go service and the SQL database, for each combination.

Thanks for the link. And the paper is not particularly well structured and written either. I'd also like to see it reviewed by other experts in this field.

I've been using Affinity Designer 1 and that's a great product! Glad to see version 2 coming.

The announcement says “give the people what they want”. You know what I really want in Signal for iOS? Backups, not stories. Congratulations for launching stories, but I honestly don’t understand why it has been prioritized over backups (E2

Is there any Mastodon managed hosting where you can bring your own domain, a bit like Fastmail but for Mastodon?

And also something we usually don’t consider: loss of memory, which can occur in combination with a traumatic event like your house burning. Then you can loose your smartphone, your Yubikey, your printed copy, and your memory all at the sam

Good point. Never thought about it. Probably did not use Windows long enough. What is not scaling well with that model? The miniatures are taking too much vertical space when hovering an app icon in the task bar?

In my experience, the miniatures showed by Windows on hover are very convenient. I miss them a bit on Mac. And also the ability to quickly snap windows on sides or corners.

I have a brand new MacBook Pro M1 14" since a few days and I can also say this is the best laptop I've ever had. Coming from an Intel-based MacBook Pro 15", I've been hesitating between the 14" and 16" versions

I’ve been surprised by all the behaviors you listed after migrating from Linux and Windows to Mac years ago, but honesty this is just a different logic and it only took a few days to get used to it. Except for your point about search where

I absolutely agree. I had to use Windows as my daily driver for a few weeks at work, and I missed a lot Apple Notes and Preview. They are fantastically well designed and implemented applications.

To switch to another window, we already had Command-Tab, Mission Control, Expose (now part of Mission Control if I understand correctly), and also clicking on the icons in the Dock. And now we have Stage Manager. I had to use Windows 10 as

GraphQL raison d’être was not to federate and proxy different, heterogeneous data sources. It has initially been developed as a better API for the Facebook monolith. I asked one of GraphQL’s coauthors directly: https://twitter.co

I started using Obsidian Sync and I’m quite impressed. The sync between my Windows laptop and my iPhone is almost real-time. Conflicts are handled nicely by merging changes from both sides and the user is notified about it. And of course, e

Two reasons why I’m using Obsidian instead of Craft: Craft uses a proprietary data format. Obsidian is more portable since it just uses folders of Markdown files. Craft for Windows doesn’t work offline (only online).

I also prefer reading threaded discussions, but are you aware of a good way of keeping track of new messages? That’s my main issue with threaded discussions, for example here on HN.
