This adds a new, unexpected element to the alien visitation theory: the aliens that come here will not be alive at all, they will be robots programmed to extract resources that cannot be reasoned with diplomatically (assuming they are not o

Is this the ML equivalent of Dunning–Kruger effect? A model with a bit of data is too afraid of being wrong to be overconfident. A model with a bit more data is overconfident in itself and gets things wrong. Finally, a model with tons and t

Does anyone know if Deno has undergone a security audit yet? I'm interested in using it as a sandbox to run user-submitted JS, and I know its permission model is powerful, but I don't know if it is formally certified (if that'

Wouldn't putting the scheduler in userspace double the amount of context switching? You'd have to interrupt a userspace thread and jump to the kernel, then jump from the kernel to the scheduler program (switch 1), then jump from t

Wait, you guys are joking? Over in my corner everyone is completely serious about it. My girlfriend wants to buy our first cow in the next two years. I work fully remote so all I need to do is find some land.

The problem with this kind of system is that it isn't retroactive; all space junk currently in space will remain in space even if the tether device is mandated. And it's unlikely it gets mandated and approved by all spacefaring go

Alternatively, stop assuming that it is our job as technologists to parent the rest of society. We have laws and politicians for that. It's not my job to figure out the eighth order effects of publishing something on GitHub.
