I am fully with you on a capital tax. It would ensure a system of constant high utilisation. Where it gets shouted down is from old people that have lived in their homes for 50 years and seen their property prices rise to make them milliona

We still have the democratic system, as things get tighter and people poorer they'll start voting for a tax on capitol. In the UK the the proposal of a mansion tax keeps popping up, this is really the future of owning capital, just own

Human nature is to reject change, we all trend towards the familiar. Those out liners that do reject change are usually hailed or hurt.

Thank you for that, certainly the most interesting is to see the most/least frugal car owners at the bottom of the page. Seeing Lexus and Audi owners in the frugal list is kind of funny.

Whilst the Open Street Map is free its important to note that the Ordinance Survey maps are some of the most detailed in the world. They offer a free access option and a paid option. Whilst the organisation is operated out of public money I

Initially my reaction was the same as the herd, however on reflection I see that he's trying to address a problem in the mobile space. Really the mobile phone market is currently a duopoly and that's bad for consumers. We are now

The problem with refactoring is the cost. Its rewriting code to no client perceivable benefit. The retesting, the inevitable new bug introduced during deployment. As developers I think we need to assume the cost of refactoring and factor th

I am surprised that the developers don't just seek sponsorship from corporate entities, especially with distributions which can get given priority support. Asking the populous to donate seems like a short term fix.

That is an interesting point of view, the government and the state are two separate things. You cannot overthrow a state (since it is a community) but you can overthrow a hostile government. The American militia were part of the revolution

Firstly I am surprised the Daily Mail created this piece, their readers care more about spending money on the NHS rather than space. Secondly I was a little puzzled but the statement that Orion could be used to send people to Mars. If that

Of course a 25% tax on profit leaves them in exactly the same position. The tax scheme is to have no profit by pay it as IP rights to another company in a low tax country. It sounds like they are doing something but in fact they are not. Th

I like the idea of 100% up time. It's an engineering problem that is hard and people shy away from. Updating the Linux kernel whilst its running has been in development for a long time, however it really needs to also happen for the wh

Perhaps you should switch up from cifs to smbfs? I used to use cifs in Maverick but now appear to get slightly better stability and performance using smbfs with my Window 2012 server and 10.10. Jury is still out on 10.10.1.
