We've just had a major codec battle about 2 years ago for HTML5 video, and I believe it still wasn't decided. Why would we go through that again? Especially when they want to add a proprietary codec to it.

WebRTC incorporates the SILK audio codec Skype is using, too, except it can go even higher bitrates. WebRTC should sound at least as good as Skype.

I don't like this trend of US sparking trade wars everywhere. In the end it's a lose-lose outcome, for both parties. Do they really not want companies to do business in Europe over this? I think it's just an empty threat. And I really hope

HP/Microsoft's study didn't include migration to a newer version of Windows. Considering Microsoft will stop supporting Windows XP as early as next year, not including the upgrade cost for a Windows migration makes no sense, unless they wer

Yeah, some proprietary form of WebRTC, though. You know Microsoft...

Yes, but Skype is not fully decentralized. Skype is no safer than any e-mail service.

At the very least I hope it forces IM apps like Skype and Facetime to support WebRTC (that is possible for native apps, too, right?) so that in the future we get interoperability between them. Wouldn't it be nice if WebRTC pushed video-call

That's still a losing proposition in the long term, again the plugin-free WebRTC. Imagine everything else besides Skype works through WebRTC.

I think most of it is off the shelf stuff, but everything packaged in one app, for all types of communication (e-mail, text, video-calls, etc). They may use new stuff, too, though.

The moment I saw this news I thought false flag ! And I may have been right: http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/17v9zy/anonymous... The feds have been investigating the bankers, and I'm sure they had access to all that informati

I wonder if this eliminates the need for ZRTP on video calls, or are there situations where it can still be used to protect the user's privacy? Will we see WebRTC with ZRTP eventually?

Then Dell should find a way to be profitable in that business, or create new businesses that are more profitable. I think if the revenue tax was implemented in all countries, it would also solve the problem of companies shifting profits fro

I think it's a revolution in the broader sense - radically changing the status quo. Considering the extremely few if any at all prosecutions of bankers all over the world, I'd say this is a revolution/radical change from status quo, along w

This is not that interesting to me. Twitter has been loved by traditional media almost from day one. Facebook is also almost a decade old, and it still got only 8%. So I'm not surprised Google+ wasn't mentioned much, or at all. What would b

That was a bad call from Acer to use an HDD, regardless of how much storage it really has. It's a Chromebook. Another bad call for both is that they used a crippled Intel Celeron with terrible GPU graphics (remember you need the GPU for vid

Imagine if there would've been a way to force 100% of people who got Windows in China, India, and other poor countries all over the world to pay up $100 or more for their copy. If that would've been at all possible, I think Linux would've

This is what Spotify and others like them need to do, too - try to take away artists from the labels. But I think Spotify already signed a non-competing contract with the labels.

That's how virtually all competition is formed in all markets. You wouldn't have "competitors" if they didn't have to at least make a somewhat similar product. If it would be a completely 100% different product, then it wouldn't be a compet

That doesn't't mean citizens shouldn't fight for better privacy rights, or at least enforce the ones they have, though. Comments like that always sound defeatist to me.

Mining started out with CPU's, then with GPU's, then with FPGA's, and now ASIC's. What's the next technology to make mining an order of magnitude or two more efficient? D-wave computers perhaps? Those cost quite a bit, though.
