Instead of untested wind farms on liners, why not just use nuclear power. It is well tested (think aircraft carriers). Furthermore, while such a reactor may need fuel and disposal services, the wind farms will likely also require spare part

Right on. This is where lisp shines. Since inbuilt special forms and added libraries are indistinguishable from each other and since advanced functionality like macros are available, it allows one to write a DSL in lisp. Its very nice. PS

Well... If you would like to go into CS a little with some rigor, a book on compilers would actually be very helpful, if only because compilers have to deal with some of the most complex problems in CS today. I would advise starting with th

Half right, half wrong. Lifting weights in isolation is useful but not particularly. However lifting weights with some exercise for careful movement control like Tai Chi is the best combo. Tai Chi just by itself is useful but without some a

Actually in lisp (and scheme as scheme is a dialect of lisp), the line between library and language is so fuzzy that its practically invisible.

Comcast deserves some praise for this. They could have just continued with a stealth limit and let their customers ignore it but by placing an explicit 250 GB limit, they are offering more information to the customer and helping the custome

No. You were right that with large inputs the program stack will blow up. However, the definition of tail recursive is if a function returns the value of a recursive call or does not make a recursive call and the factorial and Fibonacci fu

Nope. Its worse. The solutions given in the book for the Fibonacci sequence and the factorial won't be optimized into tail recursion even in scheme unless some additional transformations were carried out on them first. In the factorial sequ

Just wondering, how much of that is due to the query optimizer in MySQL and how much is due to the inherent nature of SQL? It would be interesting to try this on other RDBMSs like postgres and oracle to see what their results are like.

Doesn't synthetic ammonia production currently rely on petroleum? Also, the other major use for ammonia is as a major fertilizer for food products. Your ammonia idea will spike the food prices just like ethanol except that it will strike ev

Stacking would be the wrong way to go about it. With ZFS, you could still get 99.99999...% but with only a slight percentage increase in necessary storage space.

It is completely unacceptable for a normal FS. Something a bit more advanced like ZFS may be able to cope. What I am wondering about is why amazon didn't implement such a solution on a massive scale themselves and then run EBS on top of it.

Agreed. I would love to buy one if the price drops anywhere below $100. From what I can tell, this is also in the creator's best interest as that is the natural direction for this project -- One in every household.
