actually no. If the US outright repudiates debt in war, the value of the dollar would take a plunge and solders, even the patriotic ones, like to get paid for risking their lives. Furthermore, weapons and supplies are extremely expensive. W

The guy does realize that houses are not the only kind of assets that the US has. After they are accounted for, the US is anything but bankrupt.

Even more interesting, there are now some compiler optimization algorithms which can theoretically do some of this stuff automatically. Look up incrementalization on citeseerx etc...

Another point on the health care bit. At present, medicare and medicaid spend a combined > $600 billion and rising at 6% annually. In their market (medical insurance) they are the largest players. Absolutely. As a result, other insura

Aren't these guys paid as a percentage of profits and funds managed? In that case, presumably, there will be fewer startups when there is less funding implying fewer gains which implies a lower salary for him.

I am not sure about the other but #3 is completely superseded by gcc's optimization algorithms. Besides, is this kind of low level stuff really something a developer should be wasting their time with?

Ummm... since no one seems to have mentioned this, Use Postgres. Integrated FTS (with the new 8.2 i think versions). Complete transaction support, full ACID support, more obvious behavior and drastically better scaling.
