This is the browning of the flesh of the Apple which happens when the Apple is cut and in contact with Oxygen. This is not related to wax or other treatments of the skin used to prolong freshness as I understand it.

Right, I think we agree. It's not a sunk cost fallacy. It's more sink cost signaling or something.

When developing a new basic technology the milestones are often vague, and they're generally not open to DD. So hitting milestones in taken on trust and open to interpretation quite often. Sink cost doesn't work quite the same way

Yes, it's a trade off. Living somewhere expensive where there's little liquidity sucks . Living somewhere cheap, where you can get occasional well paid work and save money can also work.

Well, perhaps think of it another way. Those billions are mostly going toward staffing costs (I would guess? If not direct employees then via semiconductor fabs etc). Would that engineer time be better spent proving out a bunch of smaller s

Right, my comment wasn't on the last statement in your comment ("they're too big to fail"), but the bulk of it motivated by "Google didn't put ~$500m, and Alibaba something like $800m, just on a whim". Yea

You know... this thesis that they've raised 1.1BUSD so it /must/ be good just doesn't hold water for me. It's almost an argument from authority, and it's not very useful. In particular, investors have made larg

But they've only raised 22MUSD how can we expect them to have done anything yet? ;) Suing them seem like an odd thing to do.

They're based in Dania Beach, Florida. I'd guess the job market is not quite as liquid as in the Bay Area. People get locked in, family commitments etc. etc.

I'd like to break this down a bit. Firstly, why is this so frustrating. On a practical level, it's frustrating for engineers because to operate as engineers we have to work for these companies. It's not just the fakeness, it&

You can be compelled to give your users data to government agents. You can even be compelled to background encryption algorithms to make this easier. To say that's not "giving" seems like semantics.

"We will never sell or give away any data concerning you. Not one single bit." and "Lyra Communications Ltd, UK reg. 10534260" are unfortunately not really compatible statements, particularly after the IP Bill passed.

Forget high speed rail. It would be great if the trains weren't 30+ years old. On the lines I most often use the carriages don't have automatic doors. I'm constantly embarrassed when I have to show visitors how to open the wi

If you're going to make a contentious statement like that (i.e. most homeless are insane). I think you should probably at least try to back it up. It probably varies significantly by country/city. But the first reference I found [
