There was a blog I followed and really admired ten or fifteen years ago. One day I was reading one of his posts and in the middle of it was an exuberant note of thanks for an article I wrote doing a close read of Ruby's TSort package.

Honestly, I don't think it's a problem with RSS as a format. It's a problem with clients.

Okay, I'll shill my feed reader since it's an example of one that lets you organize feeds and doesn't present a firehose: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/brook-feed-re... It'

Which is just awesome when your current phone is broken. I posted about it and they suggested that I keep a backup phone available at all times, thanks folks.

This destroyed my phone, and their appeasement process was terrible too. There was no way for me to find out whether there was a supported repair shop nearby, the $50 cash was apparently through a very dodgy company, and then $100 google s

The one thing that kills me is the number of "modern" blogs/sites that don't offer rss or atom is really frustrating. If I really like your site, please let me be an engaged reader and let me know when you have somethin

Another take I've had is that we were wrong in the past. Pedaling isn't the tricky part of riding a bike. Balancing is. Training wheels let you learn to pedal.

This is a ReactNative app that consumes XML and maps it to ReactNative components, so you're still using those pointlessly complicated technologies, but through a proxy application that abstracts some of the complexity away ( https:&#x

You'd want to benchmark this yourself, and assume that the impact will probably decrease as browsers progress, but I believe that for very large trees (tables, etc) it can have a fair impact. That said, I'm guessing paints aren&#

Performance reviews can definitely be used for ill, at the same time I think it's valuable to have some mechanisms in place to make sure people are accountable. Generally if one person is slacking off, being sloppy, or just plain not

ElectricSQL and friends seem to be the best option so far, but they all come with a lot of caveats. It feels like local-first is near, and it's so tantalizing, but I haven't seen anything that feels like it's done enough to

A slightly different take. If everything is either an obvious sketch, or pixel perfect you can get decent feedback, but a design that is just a little off in jarring ways will distract people from the functionality or design intention.

I don't know, it depends on whether I get to control the auto generated podcast or someone else. If I get to control it and I can have it draw in enough interesting angles into something, I think it could be fun. I wouldn't repla

Oh! That's really clever. The live queries make this a very compelling tool for some form of local first development.

Looks like you configure it with the connection string, so assuming you can just detect whether OPFS is available or swap based on the browser you should be fine.

But is it a blog if it doesn't have an RSS feed? …okay sure, technically yes, but not one I will be able to follow, or remember to read until it pops up in someone else's aggregator or links in the future.

You probably could, but you really want your database migrations to clear, repeatable, and dead simple. I can also imagine edge cases like a migration dropping a column and another recreating it where it may be unclear what the state is, an

I'm curious, what reporting is actually useful to your team. I used to work on a project management tool, and everyone wanted "reporting", but when you got down to what they needed it was usually pretty minimal.
